I guess with budget priced software it's understandable if the company nickel and dimes their customers a little...
Only if their customer base accepts it without complaint.
Which 'company' and customer base is that?

I agree, but one can only assume, they are trying to maximize profits,on all levels. I would expect this from Apple, but not Spectrasonics, wait, actually Apple still doesn't charge me for software I've purchased that I'd need to re-download, so.. :?:

I don't mind Spectrasonics charging extra for people not taking responsibility to backup their data properly.
Just like I don't mind my insurance company not paying out irresponsible drivers that speed or drink/dug drive so that MY premiums are reasonable.

Why should the extra costs be passed onto those customers that DO do the right thing?
My main tools: Kontakt, Omnisphere, Samplemodeling + Audio Modeling. Unify = godsend. Tari's libraries also rock.

Insurance companies are well known for charging those that can pay extra to offset those that can't but will still have to be dealt with. In any event the analogy is somewhat an incongruity in that one is a regular payment for something you work hard to never use while the other is suppose to be a product of which the buyer always intends to use constantly. If something happens and all back ups are lost due to any type of human doing or force majeure, it would be nice if the company didn't strike the customer with a second hit.

Hopefully, Spectra will take the requests for (re)downloads on a case by case basis. For the price of the software initially though, it is a service they ought to absorb. Considering the price, not doing so just seems petty.

Why should extra costs be expected of any customer that has already paid?

I was originally sent an email with two links - Mac and Windows. I got it all installed on my windows desktop and tried to download again from the Mac link for my laptop. I couldn't DL again so I emailed them and they sent me a fresh link, no questions asked. If something went wrong with the DL or if you need another install for a laptop, just drop them a line. I'm sure they'll sort you out.

I just did the maths - copying the Omni download onto a 1TB HDD at today's prices takes up £1 worth of space.

Just a thought.

Re installing on a 2nd machine / laptop. FWIW (and this is very much try-at-your-own-risk, I know Spectrasonics would advise always using the full installer) I manually copied all the new sample db files in the STEAM folder across to the laptop, then replaced the other folders inside the Laptop STEAM with the new ones. Took about 5 minutes. Then I ran the installer parts 1, 3 and 4. Everything works perfectly. Initially I didn't run parts 3 and 4, but you do need to do this to have it load Trilian and Moog patches - just copying the rest of the STEAM folders isn't enough.

To be honest though, it would be pretty much as fast to just copy the full update installer to the laptop and run it normally. As much as anything I was making sure I'd copied all my latest user and 3rd party patches across.

In patch directory user I had a category selected and a patch selected in the bottom left list column, I had edited the patch, taken off the fm in oscillator zoom but then I used the utility menu to 'Save Patch Quick' , click ok on 'overwrite current patch?' caution dialogue box and the FM part was magically switched back on.

Anyone else confirm this behaviour?

If I edit the tags then save this doesn't do that.

Did you enable the Cutoff for Host Automation in Omnisphere by right clicking the knob and selecting Enable Host Automation first? And move the Cutoff knob once after that before start recording.

Just had a fun jam with only Omnisphere 2 as the synth in Bitwig. 5 factory presets, 3 of my own.

Only external effects was a single instance of Valhalla Ubermod and Room and a few instances of Pro Q 2.

How are the loading times? Is the patch loading times quicker than version 1? Thanks.

I just installed Omni 2. I was reading the online reference guide in which it said you could create a pdf file from the online manual if so desired. Really? Is there an easy way to do that on a PC without hunting done some kind of conversion software - I certainly have not been able to figure out how to do it. Perhaps Mac users have it easier.

Is it too much to ask a company that charges 500 bucks for a new license and 250 for an upgrade to do us the courtesy of making a pdf reference guide available to registered users - you know, the ones that paid all that money in the first place? I'm a documentation wonk - it's an important feature of any complex software IMO. I'm really annoyed at Spectrsonics for this totally half-assed effort.

I have always felt the same. It's one of very few complaints that I have with them though.
