has the mac version got no piano roll?

I use the sampler a lot. Sometimes for drum samples and sometimes just for adding sounds to a tune quickly and easily. The good thing about it is that its so much easier to set up for something simple like this than any of the available vst samplers.

There is one little tiny thing that annoys me so much about it though. You cant just replace a sample. So every time you want to try say, a different drum hit you have to set the base note and key range again.

I would like it so much more if it had a 'Replace Sample' option.

Obviously there are a lot of features that the sampler is missing but it is useful for adding samples to a track quickly.

Well sort of... expanding the clip to a defined zoom level is part of the functionality of a dedicated piano roll... but i'd like to see, select a clip, hit z and the clip fills the whole screen while you're editing... a command key to switch between the selection and draw tool, and copy and paste tied to cursor location, which it sort of does now... Depending on zoom level or location, it's not very useful to have a clip expand to 2 inches wide by 8 inches high? To me anyway...

thats weird on the pc we can have the clip anysize
we just use the arrows on the keyboard and it makes it any length you like
funny the mac version aint the same
i wonder if jules knows?

I use the sampler for drums all the time, more like a drum machine until a drummer buddy can do the actual drums at his place. I really don't know much about samplers but one day I intend to learn more. I do know that my Korg NX5R uses sampled sounds. Or I think so any way :?:

In the preferences you can choose wether it zooms between small and medium, or small to large when double clicking. And the shortcut for selection tool is "S", and Draw tool is "D".

I could have sworn the sampler was NOT velocity-sensitive... or am I wrong?

Part of the reason I never used it is because I always do acoustic drums, and could never handle my kick drum sounding exactly the same each time.

It handles velocity as in volume of sample. As long as you dont have the midi device set to "ignore velocities". But theres no velocity layers etc.

I personally like the "ignore release" button. It makes it really easy to work with percussion samples.

Yea, it does work that way on the Mac, but I never use the half zoom size, and hitting the arrow key 3 times to get to the full screen width, seems like way too many keystrokes, when "z" would do that in one. I guess there is the fit in window cmnd. thingy...

Yeah that's right, you did, just a bit of cross contamination from me - soz about that  I have left a post at TF.

Listen - if I knew a bit more about what the enhancements to the sampler might be I could tell you more definitely if i would use it (though I think I made my points in my earlier post).

But I understand if you want to play it close to the chest till you think it's worth doing...

It's great having stars like you doing this development stuff - it makes the whole business of making computer music more like 'community' music. I've downloaded synthedit and I'm going to create a vsti myself(I know nothing about programming, though a lot about music and computers, so it probably won't be any good, but what the hell - it'll be free)

Bugger, it, I've gone off topic again :( :?
