The clicks/pops don't bother me at all, but I'm curious (again). What things are made impossible by flushing the synth between preset switches?

Any chance of getting .tun support in an update, like, anytime soon? I LOVE the sound of this thing but I sort of promised myself no more non microtunable instruments.

Did I mention I LOVE the sound of this thing? Holy shmoley. I was all prepared to dismiss Hive as just another standard architecture subtractive, but my GOD it's chunky and powerful, and surprisingly versatile.

Question for the developers (or anyone else really): Hive was designed to be CPU-efficient, and I've certainly found that to be the case thus far. I realize this question certainly depends on the computer set up (OS, RAM, processor, etc.) and the particular patch in question, but I thought maybe Urs & co. could shed some light..

How much CPU is saved by keeping the global polyphony (voices) at a lower number? In other words, since Hive is CPU-efficient, I'm thinking of "locking" the voices parameter at the maximum amount for all of my Hive use. I know I could just "try it out" and see, but I didn't know if anyone out there had any hard data on the pros/cons of this strategy.

Thanks y'all.

+1 for microtuning support

say, you want instant MIDI Program Switches to use just one instance to create a drum track, or switch between presets during a live performance, maybe even as means of expression. In those cases a drop out of, say, half a second would be really bad.

It's part of the plan based on feedback during beta testing. We want to improve the whole tun file support though.

That's a difficult question to answer. Voices cost CPU. However, the limit of 16 voices total has many more reasons, partly because "that's how it always was" but also because of our multicore engine (Diva, ACE, Bazille) and because of 16 MIDI channels and our multi-MIDI-channel-support... it's complex ;-)

Is there any chance of having the GUI made to refresh faster on the u-he plugins? The GUI's for the u-he software I own are typically notably slow to draw whenever I need to reopen their interface. Any part of the UI not on the screen seems to either not draw, or draw very slowly when it's brought back into view, making the whole thing choppy if you're moving the window around a bit. As a point of comparison, Serum, Spire, Sylenth1 all don't have this sort of thing.

Not a deal breaker for me but I'm curious if it's on the map to try and improve this at some point.

Is in this release version the effect preset tab included?

Post

After thinking I was gonna give Hive a miss, I finally decided to demo it. I am so frickin glad I did! Purchased. Feature wise there's nothing I haven't already got, and more, in my other synths, but the sound of this thing is absolutely lovely. I love the way the filters respond to the input gain... so many different tonal flavours to be had from the interaction with the resonance, and it always sounds nice even when pushed to extremes... impressive indeed considering the small CPU hit.

A couple of things I'm missing Urs: Scaling knobs for the 'Via' slots in the matrix, like Zebra, and/or modulatable mod matrix depths. Also, maybe a phase spread parameter for the oscillators in phase reset mode, so we can have repeatable attacks but with the option to change how it sounds. Cheers! :)

hive(vst2 x64) crashes host (tried many), holding sustainpedal while playing away for some time.

100% reproducible from fresh init instance. fast method is 4 bars of 64th holding sustain.

I was wondering if that could happen. There was some code that made me scratch my head, but as it has been used for years I hadn't given it further attention.

I shall look into it asap.

Hi Urs

I am unable to automate the pitchwheel of Hive. Is this a known issue ? Can't find anything on it in the search.

I'm using Bitwig 1.1.8 on Windows 8.1 with Hive 1.0, but I also have the same issue in Live 9. Even trying to record automation does not work.

Thanks
