"Active Presets" for other plugins (at least MPowerSynth!)?

Hey Vojtech,

it came to my mind that this tagging feature in MXXX (purpose, instrument, type, character, flags) is extremely useful. Normally I started to giving my presets tags inside the information-editor and afterwards search for this tag - but it would not work for more than one tag to search. Especially in MPowerSynth such a tagging system would be very powerful, I think.

Are there maybe plans already to embed this into other plugins as well? At least MPowerSynth? :)

Best whishes,
Manuel

Hi Manuel,

I'm afraid nothing like that will happen in MPowerSynth. I was originally thinking about it, but discarded it as it didn't seem very useful and there were some "origanizational" problems. Now it's too late for that anyway. But I'll keep that in mind for any synth in the future ;).

I see. Thanks for your answer though. Luckily there is also the possibility to search for words in the info text already.

A spontaneous idea came to my mind: would it be possible to add the feature / searchsystem to search multiple words? It would be similar to tagging after all. If not, no problem for me. :)

Well, sure, but please tell me more about it ;)

Sorry, I think I expressed myself a bit complicated. Let me try it this way:

The idea is to improve the search field in the preset manager. You can type in a word and the manager filters all the preset in which this word is included. Unfortunately it can only be one single search-string now. The improvement I would like to see is to be able to write down multiple words for the search.

Example:
A presets info-text is "distortion, deep, dark, cinematic" and I am looking for presets with the words "deep" and "cinematic" in it. I would like to enter "deep, cinematic" for example and the system seperates these to words as seperate search-strings and combines the filtering afterwards... just search-results in which both of the searched strings are included, should be shown then.

Is it now clear? I could still bring up more examples if you like. ;)

Thanks for your open mind!

Aaaaaha, very well then, no problem ;). Though you'll have a little problem since the keywords are not really in the names, right? It would be in the paths, but it's hard to say how useful that would be, probably easier to use the tree. Anyways good idea ;)

But the actual search field does also search the names, or am I wrong? Or I am not understanding now what you said, hehe. :D

Yes, it is, but where is "distortion" present for example?

My keywords were just an example. I try to always write them into the information-field of the preset. I do it like this:

"Author: Manuel Senfft
distortion, deep, dark, cinematic"

The search engine then can jus search for the words inside the information field, like it does now. So regarding your question: "distortion" would just be a word somewhere in the information-field.

In the search field it could look like this, if we wanted to search for "deep" and "distortion" maybe:

"deep, distortion" - so just seperated with a simple comma for example.

Hopefully I answered what you asked for. I sense some kind of misunderstanding here - sorry, if there is a lack of english. :)

Aaaaaaha! Actually that's an interesting idea!! Wish I have thought of it before... the engine could easily extract strings of format "1, 2, 3, 4..." and create tags automatically. Though there would probably need to be some preestablished system.

Do you mean by "preestablished system" somehting like pre-defined rules the user had to follow when writing the info-text? Or did it refer to the backend-system of the search engine?

As a hobby programer I had to think about "regular expressions" for analysing the input of the search field. But yeah, ... I am just a hobby-programer, hehe. So don't take my word here! :D

I am really looking forward to what will come sometime in the future regarding this thing. But do not put to much work into it - it's just a simple idea from a simple guy like me. ;)

Hehe the technical backend isn't that complex, no need for regexp ;). But one would need to establish some conveniences, or more like "traditions" :). Just so that everyone would write the same kind of information. Sadly, people are usually unable to even write reasonable preset names, so... :)

I see, yes, this can be a problem. Hmm ...

You implemented it. Thank you so much! :)

One short question: could it be that the search field now only searches for the information OR the preset name? In this case I would change all my personal presets and start putting the preset name in the information field as well. :)

(another idea would be to combine all: infofield, preset name and even the folder where it is stored ... but it's just an idea ... it's already really great that you implemented it like it is now!)

It should now search in both the name and the information, needs to find all the keywords in one of them to make a "match". Doesn't it work there?

(combining anything etc. is a no go I'm afraid, backward compatibility is a bitch :D ).
