If we have a preset that is, say, a mixing effect that is not associated with any particular track type (drums, vox, whatever), how do we categorize the instrument? I'm unsure whether we should check every single one or just leave them all unchecked instead. Guidance please?

I have a question also. I'm making a few guitar overdrive fx and I was wondering if I could skip the wet/dry. When using a pedal you don't really use wet dry, you just turn down the gain or turn it off.

dmbaer: Please check this very carefuly:

As for your case:
Instrument - enable all instruments the preset can be useful for effectively. A transient shaper can be used on all sorts of audio material, but effectively it is useful on drums and percussion only.
So generally it depends what you think - if it is really designed for basically all instruments, then go ahead and select all.
Chandler: Sorry, but the sort of dry/wet is just necessary. Eventually you can always make it a switch, but it needs to be there.
