Dude, who the f**k do you think you are? The real troll is you moron. If you got your little tiny feelings hurt because of someones opinion, that's your f**king problem! Go take it out somewhere else. The only one being abusive here is you!!! You don't own shit here, what do you think, you're some f**king savior or something?

I was under the impression that the above post would be in breach of the following rule:
Members should post in a way that is respectful of other users. Flaming or abusing users in any way will not be tolerated and will result in your post being edited / deleted, and you may be issued with a warning and / or a ban.

but despite reporting it, and the presence of a mod in that thread (after the post was made), nothing seems to have been done about it.

Which is fine, I suppose, but I'd like to know if we are all free to speak like that or if it's only friends/associates of mods who can interpret the rules in such a way ? or is there some kind of 'free pass' lottery for abusive posts ?

cheers.

Pls relax.

From my point of view you've been rude, too.

Why not forget this episode and keep on posting about (making) music, life and the rest - without looking back in anger. :)

Post

I am relaxed.

Just seeking clarification.

you're free to think i was 'rude' in that thread. but there are gradients of rude, you could perceive 1 out of every 10 posts on the board as being 'rude' in some way if you wanted. But they are rude within the rules of conduct.

sorry but there needs to be some clarification on whether Orbit-50's post is OK or not.

Can we all speak like that, if we think someone was generally 'rude' about something ?
(just look at the quote he's responding to - his reply seems OK ?)
I was under the impression we couldn't speak like that - at all - for any reason - in any context.
And for good reason.

It seems that you're rather longing for punishment (of the mentioned user). Hiding this motivation behind a "general rule discussion" doesn't change the impression. ;)

Again: Simply forget about it. Both of you guys don't deserve such a kindergarden discussion.

longing for punishment ?

no.

Maybe you should forget about it, since it's not really of any concern to you ? (or so you seem to be saying ? I don't know)

I'm genuinely seeking clarification. if this is how we can speak, I'd like to know. There's been plenty of times my natural urge was to post in the way Orbit-50 did - I'm sure we all get that urge from time to time. But I assume we all refrain from doing so (those of us who do actually refrain that is), in part because of simple decency, but perhaps in larger part because we believe it would result in our account being moderated.

So, a little clarity would be great....

why is it some users can flagrantly breach the rules of conduct ? despite being reported, and in the presence of mods ?

what's the secret! if I need to butter up to a mod by telling him or her that their music is awesome and deep, then so be it - I will!

Congrats. You found the key. Now use it to unlock the door enabling everyone to leave this unnecessary debate.

huh ?

I suggest you use the key yourself... I'm getting mixed signals from you. On the one had you're saying this request for clarification is unimportant and I should do something else... on the other hand you can't seem to leave the thread ?

Anyway, I get your point, you don't think it's important and there's other things in life like music etc.
A valuable insight, I'll keep it in mind.

Meanwhile, I'll just hang tight for a mod's clarification if it's alright with you...

cheers!

No, it's not ok. After a 250 mile day on a motorcycle in the hot southern heat, reading kvr in bed on an ipad before turning out the lights, the thread in question just got a cursory glance and a quick post.
Please, every one just try to get along.
btw, Obit got a warning.
would you prefer he got 50 lashes?

No, it's not ok.

good.

I would question the effectiveness of the post-report system then... as the post was reported using the 'report post' button, and not one single mod did anything about it. Not knowing how the system works, I'll just give the benefit of the doubt and believe such systemated reports are easy to miss if a mod is tired or something. I guess all the mods were out riding motorcycles yesterday ?

cheers.

of course not.
but if he got a warning for such a post, surely it stands to reason that the post itself would have been also edited ?

because to give a warning in private, and to leave such an offensive post in place unedited (and the rules specifially indicate offensive posts will be edited/deleted), basically looks to everyone else like nothing was done - especially when a mod is posting in the thread after the post is made and it is clear the mod has seen it.

that is giving mixed signals to everyone else on the board, trying to follow the rules.

i'd suggest editing such posts that warrant private warnings, or giving the warnings publicly.

otherwise - as I said - it just looks like such posts are fine & dandy.

thanks for your suggestions Daags, I'll pass your name on to Ben to be my replacement.

This board ran well for years and years before you arrived on the scene 6 months ago. Really.

There are thousands of posts a day and a team of volunteer mods that numbers in the single digits. So, some are going to slip through the cracks. That being said, KVR typically knows that the people posting here are capable of acting like adults so they don't hold everyone's hand. Abusive posts make their way through, but consistently abusive posters are banned. So, the result is a board that is (for the most part) pretty civil and the system runs pretty well. Reported posts typically get dealt with in a satisfactory manner, but you have to realize that there's not a mod at all moments hitting refresh and scanning every post.

If someone is abusive in post, then report it and don't take it personally. It's some anonymous guy on the internet. If they're consistently abusive, then they'll probably be gone before long if they don't change. There are tons of great posters here and a (much smaller) number of jerks. The jerks think they're clever and powerful, but anyone reading here consistently knows these people and treats them like a crazy uncle ("Just nod your head and smile.").

Really, it's not all that big of a deal.

The rules seem very clear. They just don't seem to be applied very evenly. People seem to be able to get a way with a lot here compared to other sites, but I don't think that's likely to change anytime soon. However, at least some of the consistently abusive posters do get banned when they go too far.
