I think part of the problem is they couldn't make the D-50 version sound too much like the original or they would risk the wrath of Roland. Perhaps the same for Yamaha and the SY-77. I'm not too sure Emu, Creative or whoever owns the rights to the old Ensoniq stuff this week would care since they allow Digital Sound Factory to sell some of the original sample content..........

It definitely is a 'solid' collection when not compared to the originals. For my tastes it was pretty redundant in a raw way to other things I have and use though. and the PACE software made it an absolute 'get it the hell off my machine'. Since I had already registered it, I simply gave it away. Since then, sales have twice given it to me again. Of which I was able to sell cheaply as unregistered to those that don't mind the PACE parasite and offset the price of what I bought in the sale originally.Numanoid wrote:... Digital Synsations is a... collection.
But it needs to be seen as sample library, and not an accurate emulation
But to be able to build patches like on the real instrument like an Emulation aims at, is not really possible.
I often wonder, if PACE is such a great thing, then why do those companies using it continually have to hugely discount their product or even give it away just to get people to own it?
TETO, but for me, PACE means it's crap and not worth infecting my system with.
As far as the sounds themselves, you can get the same or better depending on your needs/tastes without any of nonsense.

Considering the massive sales and giveaways by companies that don't use Pace (like NI, IK, etc), it's is a pretty big leap in logic to say this giveaway of Digital Synsations is because they can't get people to try their products any other way due to the copy protection. It seems actually that UVI is doing pretty well.BBFG# wrote: I often wonder, if PACE is such a great thing, then why do those companies using it continually have to hugely discount their product or even give it away just to get people to own it?
But you did get to unnecessarily mention your dislike of ilok in yet another thread, so that's a win I guess.
EDIT: ilok portion redacted for illustration. You be the judge.

No way would I have paid $200 for Digital Synsations.
I think somewhere between $80-50 would be a fair price, getting it free is best though

UVI seems like a decent company.
Once they kick PACE/iLok to the curb, they may even be a great company.
And giving DS away has probably curbed any piracy of it far more than that copy protection ever did.

Downloaded Digital Synsations this afternoon (fast connection, but it still too over an hour) and I am so glad I didn't pay $200 for it. But for free?
I missed the last time they gave it away for nothing (some months back and only for a single day) so glad I found the free download today.
Is it worth your time to download? Indeed yes. For free, are you kidding? Does it sound like those old classics? Somewhat here and there, but we've all heard those digital monsters in person and you will not be selling your old hardware once you have these. Sorry. But you will find a number of useful patches (I did) and the sound quality is fine.
It is not in the same class with the Korg emulations, but then you shouldn't expect it to be.

That would work, but I recall that Cakewalk had a slightly cheaper upgrade price a while back that was specific to X3 Producer. Actually, it looks like they still do, but it appears to be the only one that doesn't go on sale.Uncle E wrote:The Sonar Platinum Upgrade from any Sonar Producer is for X3 Producer.anxiousmofo wrote:Strange that they never seem to put the Platinum upgrade from X3 Producer on discount.
