Any word on NI Komplete 10 yet?

With the summer sale on it's a mighty tempting upgrade right now, but if it won't install on my Receptor 2+ with the latest 2.01 OS, I guess I'll wait. And also of note this usually means Komplete 11 is on the way very soon.
Thanks,

We're at a bit of an impasse. There is a specific library that Kontakt uses that is currently not supported in Wine. Question is how long it will take the Wine community to support it, or whether or not enough people complain to NI so that they write a fix to get around the offending library (hint hint…)

It probably wouldn't be that hard for them to get it to be compatible, but I think they won't do it unless a lot of customers complain, so that means waiting for support from the Wine side.

If you DO purchase Komplete 10, you still should be able to get all the way up to Komplete 9 assuming you have access to the installers, or we can install it for you for a flat fee...

Thanks for your reply Bryan. So from your reply and it's an incompatible Kontakt sample library, care to let us know which one? Also wouldn't I be able to just install all but the offending library? I have several libraries that I would love to install but they all require at least Kontakt 5. Sadly I have no media for Komplete 9, I guess I could try and find a used copy, but with 11 right around the corner, that seems like a slightly insane idea.

i think he means code library - not sample library.

I wish it were just an incompatible sample library, but it is indeed one of the runtime libraries that the PROGRAM accesses that is causing the issue. I did hear back from NI that they are going to spend some time looking at it, which is encouraging…

Thanks for that Bryan,
I guess I'm still on the fence then, I guess in the interim I could at least still use K10 on my desktop.
At least some news is better than silence.

Hi,
I've just purchased OS 2.0.1
I much prefer the new UI!
But...I want to install Komplete 9 and from what I've read there are problems with the install when it gets to a screen that asks for a windows 7 response? And this area, that needs to be "checked", isn't visible. Has this problem been overcome? I'm on a Receptor 2 Pro and
I've just got myself out of a lot of trouble with a poor install, where
Omisphere wouldn't go in..but Nick helped...many thanks to him and..I don't want a repeat situation. So I'd like to know this problem doesn't exist anymore before I attempt the K9 install. Any answer would be much appreciated.

I think it would be wise to put in a ticket, I had issues trying to get GR5 installed and got that error. They sent me a fix that worked well. There may be other hurdles with the Komplete9 install, I don't know I'm still at 7. And I agree once you get used to it the new UI is preferable.
Good luck,
Dirk

This is my first forum post.
I am concerned reading this thread. I bought my Receptor Trio with Komplete 10 Ulitmate in May this year and was told that that the fix to get Komplete 10 working was happening “as we speak.” I was given a complimentary copy of Komplete 9.
It now appears this is not the case. It appears that no one is actually working on it.
I don’t understand why NI or the Wine community should lend their expertise to fixing a problem with the Receptor’s software?
Perhaps this analogy doesn’t quite fit, but roll with it: I go to an automobile dealer and buy one with the parts for the aircon in the trunk. They need fitting and the garage say to come back once they have the right wrench. In the mean time, I have some windows to open instead. I go back to the garage, who say that I need to email the wrench manufacturer and the aircon manufacturer as it’s their fault the aircon isn’t fitted.
Now, I realise this is overly simplistic, but in the real world (at least in the UK) it’s not acceptable to sell a product saying it will do X (even in the future) if it won’t.
I feel duped. It would have been honest to simply state that NI Komplete 10 doesn’t work and nobody is working to fix it, because that is the truth of the matter. Instead, a sales gloss (to be polite) has been added.
Are there any actual plans to fix this, or just wait on someone else doing it?

I would imagine work is focused on the next version.

Its a bit more complicated than that. There has been a lot of back and forth dialog with NI, and the fact they are issuing K9 licenses to people in the mean time shows their willingness to work with us. To that end, we hired a LInux expert to look at the issues, and they are indeed using some libraries that are not supported in Linux. So we wait for the LInux community to catch up, or we ask NI to "write around" the problem. NI is very interested in supporting musicians, and given all the high end users that have Receptors, they pay particular attention to their needs. However, they reasonably expect us to figure out what is wrong before they dive in things, which we have done, and now it is there turn to take a look at the problem.

One might reasonably ask why they didn't check Receptor compatibility when they were developing Komplete 10, and in their defense its not like we are hounding them at every turn to pay attention to us. I know its an inconvenience, but there is a very reasonable stop-gap measure in place (K9 and K10 really aren't very different) and we hope that they will quickly come up with a solution that ensures Receptor compatibility.

Of course, it always helps if a company hears directly from its customers, so if you wanted to express your concern that NI support Receptor, you might want to contact them and let them know you are interested in having this happen sooner than later.

Fact is most of the components in Komplete 10 are compatible. But the installer is broken and Kontakt 5.5 is broken, and therefore Komplete 10 is broken. If it really were hopelessly incompatible, and there was no effort being expended to make it compatible, then we would definitely say so. Unhappy customers is not something any business wants.

Hope this helps you better understand the situation.

Thanks for the knowledge dump Bryan. FYI I bit the bullet and ordered the update. At least I can use it in the studio at home, the deal was way too good to pass up.

It really shouldn't be in our (receptor users) court to rally for NI to change things, it should be you folks at Muse that it would seem could supply the most pressure, NI customer service in my dealings is challenging at best.

If you need some beta testing or something, I'd be happy to help if I can.

I would think NI would issue a temporary K10 installer, omitting Kontakt 5.5,
and the other offenders, and issue separate licenses to the latest compatible
versions of said offenders, until the complete solution is achieved. This could
aid generic linux users, who don't have a win7 installation, but might buy K10,
or various componants, if known to be installable.

I would think it less than rocket science, for a multi-installer to begin with a list
of the apps that can be installed, with a tickbox for each one, giving the customer
command of the install process. (synaptic package manager comes to mind,
doing it that way for years, Grandma, hide that source code!)
Komplete is the kind of product that attracts a variety
of users, some don't care about kontakt, some don't care about reactor, some don't
care about guitar rig, or fill_in_the_blank, so the installer should allow for skipping
anything the user desires to skip, and still allow running the installer later, to install
things as the users desire changes over time.
Cheers

Thanks for the input… all valid and interesting.

It seems that NI is interested in fixing the problem, and I believe their intention is to investigate the fixes and release those changes in a future K10 update. I doubt they will want to remove the offending plugins from the installer as that is a lot of work that really doesn't solve the problem. Most software companies have an exhaustive release cycle that has tons of testing in it, and they would be uninterested in releasing an incomplete version of Komplete when the problem is (hopefully) readily solvable on a permanent basis.

Dirk, I'm going to respectfully disagree with you: I believe that companies are far more responsive when they hear directly from customers… Especially since NI doesn't "see" the fact that there are thousands of Receptor users out there using their product day in and day out, because it "just works" a vast majority of the time. And they hear even less from our customers these days ever since we started pre-installing Komplete on all the Receptors we sell, and software installation is the #1 reason why customers contact software companies in the first place. Out of sight, out of mind, so the saying goes.

So I don't agree that we can exert more influence on them than you can, but the fact that they are being very cooperative and helpful at this point in time might mean that they will just go ahead and address the issues (fingers crossed) and everyone will live happily ever after.

No problem Bryan,
but guessing you never had to deal with NI customer service before. It was painful at best with crazy back and forth with generic replies. I also had to completely explain to them what a Muse Receptor even was, the customer service person on my ticket hadn't even a clue what I was talking about.

But if you think all of us creating a ticket and requesting action will help, I'm more than willing. Hopefully others reading this will join in as well. I've gotten to the point where I'm getting very used to all the wonderful tools that are in Komplete 10 on my desktop machine. Really would like to be able to take them all with me on the road.

For me there are 3 deal breaking apps that are must haves, they are Komplete 10, Addictive Drums 2, and Omnisphere 2.

Sadly if things don't get hashed out relatively soon, it will be time to reconsider the Receptor vs. laptop subject again. I've invested enough money and time in Receptor, I would really like to keep going down that path.

Thanks,
Dirk
