Is it any good?

I've been through most of the free transient plugins out there and none of them are really that great with the exception of Flux Bittersweet.

So more specifically what I'm asking is whether Transient Master is better than Bittersweet.

Post

Yes, I tried a lot of transient shapers, and I use NI

I prefer it to the Bittersweet, but YMMV

Post

yes, i love it.. especially on kicks!
i would like to try the meldaproductions multi-transient shaper (if it's on sale..)

Post

Didn´t like it at all. IMHO the DCAM EnvShaper from fxpansion is the best one out there...

Transient Master is my favorite; I don't even use any others. The Melda one is pretty good, flexible but didn't quite sound as good to me.

I haven't tried any of the free alternatives... SPL Transient Designer was my go-to, but now I'm using NI Transient Master exclusevely.

Post

I have and use it for a couple of years now, it's great.

I remember testing it against the SPL transient designer and I finally went for the NI one... (not really because one's better than the other... but because the character)

One thing I really wish that would be implemented is an auto-gain compensation switch when you want to drive it's limiter/clipper ...and maybe a very simple/basic time control parameter to fine-tune it's envelope a bit.

If you want more control eareckon's Transreckon could be worth a try. Also cheaper than NI's one (unless they have a sale or you get it with komplete). I like it.

+1
NI's seems to 'go to eleven', where none of the others do. It can do unnatural face smashing snap, if you want it to.

Seems quite well liked then. It's certainly looking like one of my reasons to get Komplete but I'm still undecided overall (much of what i want is in Ultimate which I really can't afford this summer).

Guess i should demo it really, but it seems like one of those tools i'll only really know if i like when i actually need to use it.

Post

i use the tool integrated on battery 4, which i assume is the same transient master engine... so, for me it's useful especially on the attack, for the sustain i'm better with a compressor, but it solves the problem with attack. very useful on that.

Of all the reasons to get Komplete, the inclusion of Transient Master in it should be one of the least. If you want just Transient Master, just get that. If you want a boatload of Synth options and Reaktor, Kontakt and a good number of Kontakt libraries...that's when you should get Komplete. (add in a number of other great effects if you're considering Komplete Ultimate)

I used to use it, but now I use Audio Assault Multi-Transient which offers a lot more control.

Yes I use it too much. Works good if you smash drums into a tape emulation then reshape the transients / release a bit with transient master or something else, even more tape, more tape, more compression, more tape again, more transient, more tape, even more tape, bounce to some real tape, back into the box for some more tape emulation, some more compression, some more transient designers, some bit reduction, some distortion, some more tape and transient, then about 10 chains of transient designers and saturators, then brickwall it to 0.5 DB dynamic range.

Layer with some white noise high passed with a linear phase EQ for some pre-ringing.

More transient master.

Some more tape emulation.

More white noise with a high shelf between 2 and 3.5 khz at the maximum boost possible for that EQ. In a chain of about 10 instances of that EQ.

Then some more transient master.

Then clip that and bitch about the inter-sample peaks.

Maybe brickwall that to 0.01 db dynamic range and call it a day.

I might have overstated that a bit, its hardly gonna be the deciding factor. Really I want the cinematic stuff but like i said i can't afford Ultimate right now.
