I voted yes. It would be a lot of fun to use Bitwig's modulation system to manipulate sequences.
Currently I use Numerology as a VST in Bitwig to do that kind of thing but since Numerology doesn't expose it's parameters for automation, I can only use it's internal mod sources (admittedly, not really a limitation).

Working with a step sequencer is a very different experience than working with a piano roll and while their features do overlap, they aren't equivalent. I can do a lot of fun stuff using Panorama or a Launch Pad to sequence clips in Bitwig, but it's more difficult to change the rate, transpose or change the start and end points of the sequence on the fly when using clips. On a step sequencer, these could all be modulate-able parameters. I can get pretty far with the Arpeggiator but when I get into more complex stuff, I just end up loading Numerology into a chain.

Just my thoughts.

bought this one lately, but didn't have the time to really dig into it yet. But first impressions are quite nice.
Wouldn't mind a nice internal one tho.

would love something more like a toggle in pianoroll so it is more like fl studios pattern. Makes it easy to make beats inside clips and copy and change ^^

I vote yes, but only because Xfer Nerve is so damn expensive.

It would be a great feature so I voted yes, but get the no votes as it's not really needed. Perhaps like others have said it can be made when the modular system is implemented. Both Geist and Transfuser do this for me and then some.

I definitely think it will be made when the mod system hits. There are already so many Max for Live and Reaktor sequencers out there so we know there's people who use them and make them, and the devs are probably aware of this too so'll they'll probably make sure we have the needed tools. I dunno much about programming but step mod looks like its 90% of a sequencer already.

For something like this I'd much rather the devs leave for us to do at that point and not waste their time on. If they made a vanilla step sequencer anyway there would be probably a bunch of people that wanted this or that particular feature before it would work for them. Until then perhaps we will see some changes in the editor that make it easier to use.

we need modular to make some good device...i actually use my maxforlive devices in max to use in this daw...modular now in bitwig would be great...i prefer than group tracks!

Put it in the list of ToDo's... BUT!!! The Sampler device needs polish before this... If the sampler fix get's delayed by these kind of projects it would be a real shame.

After that tho??? Then I'm on board. But to utilise the per note mod, I NEED a better samppler device... Jussayin'...

It's better to focus on features in Bitwig that cannot be done with other software probably. Plenty of step sequencer devices available.

Not only VST-Stepsequencers are availeble a lot on the market. Also the API is capable of realising a Step Sequencer on Devices Like the Launchpad or the APC Mini for example. I use both mentioned Controller side by side and have plenty of options for step Sequencing and manipulating Sequences with these Controllers.

i voted with a strong yes. but i don' t see it to be primarily used for drums, but for synths. using a stepsequencer as a device, where the full pattern is triggered by a midinote is a great thing. think of 303 lines, or whetever. creating a synth line with a stepsequencer mostly leads to something totally different than using the pianoroll... if you´re into electronic music, or club music, techno or such, a stepsequencer is godsent. also it shouldn't be too hard to be developed, as the basics are there already - the arp device.

are these compiled as vst, so that they can be used in bws?

The main reason I like the idea of a step sequencer in bitwig is because the piano roll is meh. Add a few options like pitch, velocity, delay, triplets, etc. you got the ultimate drum setup that would be crazy fast to work with.
