Can always hire a ghost producer while you're perfecting your own craft. Worked for David Guetta! :)
Z, I could hire Jasinski to do my track for me and I'd still come in close to the bottom.
Without a smile at the end, seems a bit unfair. I've even ceased to read the names of the track i'm voting (myopy helps on this :D ) to be the most honest i can no matter how good or bad the comments the author may have wrote on my track.
Well, when one of the members here, whose opinion I respect greatly, tells me that my last track was a vast improvement over my first effort, and it gets 17 1's and is my worst showing yet, that tells me something about this contest going deeper than just the actual content of the submission.

To me, a 1 means no effort put in whatsoever, no musical value, absolutely unlistenable.

I rarely, if ever give out 1's. If I do, it's usually to a track that's either mostly noise or drones on with little or no melody.

That I got 17 of these for a track that was clearly better than anything I'd submitted so far has to have me scratching my head wondering WTF?

But whatever. I no longer have the time to do these anyway as I am buried with work.

And maybe that's for the best.

Hi,

I gave out a few 1's because like a few others, with so many tracks I need to use the full range. A 1 certainly does not mean rubbish, no effort, etc (at least from me). In other challenges it could easily bump up to 3. I simply needed to use the 5 categories in order to get some finesse for 60 good tracks, simple as that. My own track getting the 1 of course is completely of no consequence.

Just happy to scrape above the halfway line - just! :hihi: Now I just need to find a style to persuade those who vote me lower to just go "wow"! But ... me being me, I'll just bring my own style(s) and surprises and see what happens.

I just enjoy making music of all styles and genres and have fun presenting them here with the twist of having to do some intricate sound design into the bargain.

As I have said many times before (yawn!), if people like it - great, if not, well that's OK as well, each to their own. The groups of people to which my tracks appeal will change depending on what I do. My aim really here is to improve my mixing and sound design skills, and "entertain" you all!

Cheers all,

dB

Your track is one of the very few (in the OSCs) i liked so much for how it sounds despite i see almost no "composition". Don't get me wrong: what i mean is that of the various elements (composition, arrangment, sound engineering, mixing, mastering) in my opinion the composition is by far the smaller factor. Still, i voted your track a 5 'cause the other elements are at the top, and i had fun listening to them. IMO you deserved a better position :)

That's hilarious, because I was soooo close to putting a bitcrusher on my master channel. I was really going for the part analog / part digital garage band 80's synth popish sound

Oh man, just got back online...
Get this: after I finished voting and went to bed on the 15th, someone broke into my house, tried to lock me in my room (but the lock opens on either side) and cut the phone and router cords. (Why? Everyone has cell phones nowadays... and am I going to email the police? WTF)
Then they stole an old CRT monitor and a bottle of carpet shampoo and left. Passing over my midi keyboard :phew: and anything else that might actually be worth anything. The worst part was clearly having to wait to see how everyone did!

Soooo... Congrats to the winners! Good work indeed, and good work from everyone involved. As I was listening to everyone's songs for the first time I thought "whoa, this one might be #1" about probably 15 or so different tracks.
Thanks to everybody who left me nice comments and especially to anyone who gave constructive criticism and/or advice!

Also.. Jay F.: Thanks for the special mention, it was definitely cool to see that :D
and wagtunes: I saw you mentioned me in your top picks as well, thanks much.
And I don't know if you saw, but in my "done voting" post I mention that I used a different scale this month where 2 is the mid point rather than 3, 1 only means just short of the mid point. I made sure to say that cause I still felt bad about giving out those 1s and didn't want to do it without context. I would've added a column for 6 instead if I could've. Don't let this months score discourage you:

Congrats to the winners! I will definitely participate in the future again, was fun!
circuit modeling and 0-dfb filters are cool

Congratulations again to the winners, and more importantly, Congratulations to everyone who finished a track! If you browse around KVR or any other music production forum, you'll find yourself surrounded by thousands of people who didn't finish a track last month. Hold your head high. :)

Thanks to bjporter for running this increasingly complicated contest.

I do feel like the voting is getting a bit random, everybody seems to have their own system. I personally don't give a "1" unless the track is obviously unfinished or physically painful to listen to, and I think I gave about 10 "5"s this time and lots of 4s. I'm not saying my way is best, just that there are lots of systems out there and a "1" or "5" from me mean something different than a "1" or "5" from someone else...

Sometimes I think a different voting system would be better, but with so many entries it's already insanely complex to vote. Some of us (those with some keyboard skills who don't rely on production for their entire sound like I do) probably spent more time voting than composing their track.

The one thing that definitely works is the top 5 -- I think most of us can agree that the best tracks won. Jaczinski's mixing boggles my mind and I knew he'd win as soon as I heard that track.

Congrats to the winners - well deserved!

On voting, I think when people use their individual systems, it doesn't matter that much. At least with 60 voters it evens out. As long as nobody uses the scale in reverse... :clown:

Wow, how did I miss this now...email alert on posts is really fishy.

CONGRATULATIONS, Jasinski! :tu: :tu: :tu:
Well deserved and what a great grouping up there, too! Congrats to everyone!

Weird that I missed that announcement, though. But anyway, that was a fantastic first OSC for me and I'll stick around for many more from now on! :hyper:

As for the voting system, though, maybe you should allow only 1 entry into the 5pnt slot, if that's at all possible?
I put at least 9 titles in there, hahaha, because I just love them all, so... help me! :help:
