MRecorder 24-bit recording borked?

Ah I see, that's not what I meant by a waveform though, I meant seeing the actual waveform of the file as it is recorded (like in a DAW).

+1 for showing elapsed time.

The waveform probably needs to be enabled in the "time graph settings" (just click the next icon).

I realize MRecorder isn't a glamorous plugin, but it is a practical one. However I agree with others here that if falls short of being a complete utility in these important respects:
1. The single tiny "Record" on/off button does not carry the visual weight it should. Adding data to a drive shouldn't be a casual event: it should be demarcated by a clear visual indication (as is common) like a big RED flashing square that says "RECORDING". This is also important so that the operator doesn't forget that the plugin is recording!
2. It should be possible to listen to a recording once recorded from within MRecorder. Currently you have to open the record folder and open the file in a player. Sometimes you just want to make sure the capture is done.
3. Unless the filename is changed, MRecorder will overwrite an existing file with the current filename. Not too handy if you've captured an idea and hope to capture a second one... At the very least it should warn that the file is about to be overwritten; at best it should have an automatic rename mode that ads an auto-incremented index number to any additional files created with the same filename.
4. Elapsed time is a good idea because it lets the operator know where things stand in the recording; the incrementation alone is an indicator that all is progressing well.
The fact that MRecorder is instantiated in monitor mode doesn't bother me, as it's silent and useful to check levels with. I also don't mind not seeing a graphic representation of the audio file appear as its recording. But IMO, the above issues are critical to making this utility practical. Thanks for reading.

No I did that, you are not getting what I mean. I'm talking about actually seeing what has been recorded, not just the audio stream.MeldaProduction wrote:The waveform probably needs to be enabled in the "time graph settings" (just click the next icon).

I don't follow indeed - that's what it displays (if the recording is enabled of course)aMUSEd wrote:No I did that, you are not getting what I mean. All I can see is bars for the meter - then if I click on the bar icon it switches to some sort of spectrogram type display. Tried clicking on each icon (unfortunately there are no tooltips so it's trial and error) but nothing activates a display of what has been recorded.

Yeah this is the main problem, its just hard to know what it's actually doing, if it's doing anything at all, if it's recording something, how much has been recorded, even clicking pause there's no feedback to show that it has actually paused. Which is why several times I've thought I was recording something only to find that the resulting audio file was empty and it wasn't actually recording anything (which is why I really want to be able to see it and play it back).Breeze wrote:I realize MRecorder isn't a glamorous plugin, but it is a practical one. True, it may be a little hard to use, but quite frankly it's just a free utility, so it is really low priority... we'll see.
About the analysis - you just switch to the time graphs, show time graph settings and activate waveform. But it won't show you what's recorded, it will show what signal is going through, no matter if you record or not.

Yes that's what I've been saying all along. Not what I was asking for.MeldaProduction wrote:But it won't show you what's recorded, it will show what signal is going through, no matter if you record or not.
I do realise it's a free utility but there is a paid version and with your other plugins there are also 'pro' versions, a pro version of this with the sort of features suggested would be really useful.

Are you sure you want to say that because something is free it's OK for it to be mediocre?MeldaProduction wrote:True, it may be a little hard to use, but quite frankly it's just a free utility, so it is really low priority....

Here's the thing - the development time is limited, a lot
. Which means it can be spent on something so rarely relevant that it is pretty much useless, or it can be used for something completely new
. Some time ago I thought everything could be made perfect, but, well, turns out everyone has just a limited time on this planet
.

Well this I understand completely.MeldaProduction wrote:Some time ago I thought everything could be made perfect, but, well, turns out everyone has just a limited time on this planet.
OK, tell you what: just put a flashing LED in that lets us know MRecorder is recording. The rest we can work around... that shouldn't take too long and would go a long way towards helping us out.
