Special Editions were on sale last month. If I am not wrong it was 30% off.
I recall Single instruments were on sale also sometime ago.

True, some were recorded two decades ago, but frankly the only difference between a well recorded sample then and a well recorded sample now is length and length does not always equal quality (though it does bring some realism in sustained notes, especially those that are soloed). If the samples were done with care (and they were) then they'll sound good 20 years from now.
I agree with this barring any changes in technology. There could be massive advancements in physical modeling that could improve things or make orchestra libraries easier to work with. Even if that does happen, I imagine that the samples recorded today will be utilized in those future products.

btw, speaking as someone who has been working with orchestral libraries for the last 20 years, I'm much more impressed by the libraries of today than with the Miroslav libraries we were all using back then.

They do new promotions every month. Also, they will probably do their annual student sale in September.

I am looking for a budget Orchestra library. So far my options are :

Garritan Personal Orchestra -+-150
EastWest Symphonic Orchestra Silver +- 200 Edit: Right now $95 + Ilok +-30 = $130

Both seems to be quite hard to find in the second hand market...is the Symphonic Orchestra Silver nfrs?

Also, as you can see, I am looking for big array of instrument, a complete library on a budget. Based on that, wich other alternatives would you guys consider?
$130 for Silver is really cheap. Can't you even afford that?
You really won't find anything else that good for $130.

You won't find them 2nd hand as you are not allowed to sell most sample libraries.
If you could I would happily have sold you my EWQL Gold as I don't use it.

If you are looking more for ensemples, rather than single instruments Orchestral essentials is really top notch - but we're looking at $350.

Or Spitfire Albion - but then you're looking at even more.

I would stay away from GPO - it's just not very good quality.

Also, the Complete Orchestral Collection by Peter Siedlaczek which is currently on sale at 89 euros I'd also bypass. It's really dated by today's standards. I think it's like 15+ years old.

FINALLY :hyper:

New users can even buy Komplete 10 as download, no longer need to pay for shipping or storing boxes

Question is: If you buy the download, can you sell your license later? I seem to remember something about digital purchases being NFR. But maybe I was hallucinating.

EDIT: Can't find anything that says that now. So just assume I'm making that up until you hear otherwise.

That's an old policy. NI allows sales of download products now.

Okay, thanks.

Next question is, will Uncle E and other resellers be permitted to carry the digital download?

Hmm. I see now that no coupons are available anymore on this so I guess it doesn't matter.

To get the Komplete download ball rolling, users only need to download a file 15,29MB in size.

This is either a download manager, or an installer file that lets user input their serial via the service center, so that they get the Komplete ISOs added to their NI profile.

I'm thinking that this should also make it possible for third party sellers to offer Komplete as download.

I never understood the "it's really dated by today's standard". That reality is only for those who produce music for income with client demanding a certain library be use.
If you are a hobbyist even Miroslav and GPO would work. I've heard people do some great stuff with GOP and the purpose of GPO was to give the hobbyists a budget orchestra.

A recent demo of Miroslav http://www.vi-control.net/forum/viewtop ... t=miroslav
Check the comments.

There is this as well. http://www.try-sound.com/ if you want to hear certain libraries.

BTW if you want to get into orchestra, buy Komplete or Kontakt. You will open a door to a much bigger world. The library in Kontakt is quite useful and not overwhelming for a beginner. It's an "outdated" VSL library.

EWQLSO will sound great out of the box. I regret not buying this at one time when it was on sale because the recent sale I could have upgraded to Gold for $99. A killer orchestra for a total of $200. Yes you will need an iLok and the Play engine can be very demanding on a system.

Another option. https://cinesamples.com/product/cineorch

Outdated is a meaningless term when it comes to people knowing how to use these tools.

Have to agree, KiteKrazy. Most of the passenger jets flying today are "old." My car is "old." My MIDI controller is almost six years old (yikes!). It's one thing to have heard these budget tools and still not like them, but basing this on "old" is like basing it on "beige" - it's meaningless.

Great music is indeed timeless, but old classic albums are remastered to bring them sonically up to speed.

Does sample libraries get the same treatment?
