Question about Connecting VSTs and MuLab modulation...

So as I am more familiar with combining VSTs and the modular interface of MuLab, I'm curious about combining them in a specific way.

Is there any way to assign a specific parameter of a VST (say a filter) and add an envelope for it (such as ADSR) to enact on it in case the VST itself doesn't have one?

Yes it's possible:

Insert Parameter Event Generator and connect it to the VST
Double-click the Parameter Event Generator to choose the parameter.
Insert ADSR and connect mod out to mod in of Parameter Event Generator
Connect modular event in to event in of ADSR so it receives note triggers
Of course also make the other necessary connections so you can play your VST synth.

Note that it depends on the VST and the VST parameter how well this actually works.

Specifically plug-ins with "smooth knobs" or special actions upon their sound engine will react differently to the envelopes. Smooths knob envelopes are significantly slower than "normal" knobs. Reason being, MUX acts as a user on the VST. It doesn't actually enter the sound engine of the plugin. So it's only as good as the knob would react to the user tweaking it.

It's modulation by pretending to be the user, essentially.

OMG, that's so freaky...and cool! I was about to ask the exact same thing, almost ready to suggest adding a feature to MetaParameters: "Add Modulation Input"
