That's a good question, Numanoid. Most of what we consider "classic" recordings don't need much futzing. Think of the Fritz Reiner RCA recordings from the early stereo period. Aside from a little noise reduction (maybe) there's not much left to do. Also, those were recorded using the Decca method. They already sound excellent. Most remastering happens when there are mutli-tracks still surviving and you can do some EQ, bring out an instrument that was too low, etc.

As for samples, say of a French Horn, it's pretty much a sample of a French Horn. Either it was well recorded or it wasn't. I remember Emu getting a lot of flack for the Virtuoso 2000 because, despite using better equipment and procedures, longer and more samples, etc., most people felt it as not as "real" sounding as the older Proteus 2.

Obviously for a hobbyist GPO is ok - I mean it does contain samples from an orchestra after all, and certainly sounds better than something like a jv-1080. EWQL Silver at $130 is a much better option though.
And I'm of the opinion that better tools inspires you a lot more to make music.
Trust me, I've tried making music from toy keyboards lately - it's quite a challenge to keep motivated.

MIDICH1: I don't know if you follow the development of sample libraries, but 'dated' isn't the same as getting eg. a TB303, Juno 106 or DX7.
Sample libraries are improved year by year. 15 years ago a violin might contain one sample per key. Today it might contain 30 - round robins, velocity layers etc. It will have samples for spiccato, pizzicato, legato, portamento, vibrato etc.
Then it might have all those samples for different mic positions; stage, close and hall.
This is why a library such as East West Hollywood strings Diamond edition requires 310 GB space.

In this context 'dated' means 'a much less approximation of the real thing'. Now, as kitecrazy mentioned, this might not matter to some people, but it definitely makes a difference.

Armadillo, I'd think bringing up the Virtuoso 2000 and the Proteus 2 might have answered your question as to my experience. I used to write for Music Technology (yes, I'm that old). Nothing I said needed correcting.

About the libraries you told me to skip, I already have read about many of them and things go in the same line as you pointed, but About the GOP, dindt saw that coming.. Truth is I really liked more the EWQL demos, to he point I was very, very surprised when I saw the price. No that much about the GOP stuff and considering the price is higher atm, wel...

I am not a hobbyist, I am a novice who needs to trust on a library anytime he needs it, so work does not get interrupted in endless searches for quality free instruments and VSTs to play them. My music is not mainly orchestral, but a lot of other projects I am working on are going to need them, ...a lot. But remember...Beginner...not to much $$...

Again, that price seems very, very attractive to me. Seems like the perfect deal for a beginner.I dont see anyone arguing you about GOP, so, EWQL really seems to be a better option ( and is the one I am really liking by the demos, which as you all know, its what really matters).

BTW if you want to get into orchestra, buy Komplete or Kontakt. You will open a door to a much bigger world. The library in Kontakt is quite useful and not overwhelming for a beginner. It's an "outdated" VSL library.

.....EWQLSO will sound great out of the box. I regret not buying this at one time when it was on sale because the recent sale I could have upgraded to Gold for $99. A killer orchestra for a total of $200. Yes you will need an iLok and the Play engine can be very demanding on a system.

Kontakt is pricey, so are libraries made for it. I will jump in when I i get more "established" in my fields. Not to mention I dont like its design that much...considering its kind of ...industry standard... seems I am the on with the problem or just the fact that everyone have different likes, that's why we got options.

About EWQL SO Silver being demanding:

All these budget orchestra discussions and no-one has mentioned Sonivox FilmScore Companion, which is currently on promotion for AIR users. I've not had the time to demo it yet but from what I've heard from the stuff that comes with Ableton Suite it sounds good, perhaps a little too much room character for those after a really dry sounding orchestra maybe.

Anyone have any experience with it?
