That makes it seem like it's a different function, to me... kind of confusing, no? I can see why the audio recording is there. My 02.

Post

In MuLab, right-click = context menu = extra options.

Post

Extra options? What is it doing extra? I don't see that it is doing anything at all... If I can hit record and move a knob to record automation events, where is the "extra option" there? No big deal but it seems like a feature with no feature.

Post

Audio: Input, monitoring, count down, ...
Events: Grid, count down, ...

Did you click those menus??

DHR, it's sometimes a bad idea to keep writing posts while you're in the process of exploring. I've run into silly troubles that way plenty of times. If only I had given myself a bit more time to understand, you know. So...next time you're troubled about something, it's a good idea to take a deep breath and then analyze carefully what's going on.

Those right click context menus offer settings and adjustments that are relevant to the button your on, but may otherwise be hard to reach or not to reach at all - and why would they, they're perfectly fine there!
You may be used to other DAWs where those settings are in some preferences, buried beneath heaps of other settings and tucked into some submenus - depending on which other DAW, of course. Once you're used to it, it seems normal and easy in those, but for others it's not as transparent. In MuLab, though, it's pretty direct and where you could easily expect it to be. I like that a lot, actually! It's fairly consistent that way, so you can make it a habit to look for certain features where they should be. :)

Aha! I missed that, somehow. Fantastic idea.

One minor detail, when using the Type - Numeric (Top Name), the Name is centralised but the Value is right aligned. Intentional? Just thought it may have been missed.

Great updates Jo, thanks :tu:

Er, Taron... I was not exploring as you say, I was trying to do a fade-in on a track – a function which was broken as we now know. In testing many alternative methods to doing that simple function I do regularly in every DAW I own, I discovered the "right-click event recording" item in MuLab. If you can find any explanation on how that works or what it's good for... please enlighten me.

1. recording – on or off
2. Count down – beats
3. Event recording grid

Yes, I clicked/adjusted all those menus, however nothing happened... or at least nothing DID happen until you fixed it. Regardless, if this does something useful I may be able to use, I'd like to know... if it is virtually the same as "record" and move knob... or add clip, draw automation with pen tool, then it's useless as far as I can tell. Sorry about the multiple posts. I'm going away now...

We knew the recording of parameters such as rack volume and panning were broken before the latest update, because I reported it! ;)
Same goes for many of the issues that came with the recent updates, which are otherwise fantastic! And Jo fixes troubles as fast as we find them.
However, a much more pleasant way of doing fade-in things is by [Add Automation] track and then select which parameter you want to manipulate. In a way it's much better than trying to move faders yourself, but that's just another little short-coming of MuLab. If you record fader animations, you don't get the pretty curve editing patterns. However, if you Add Automation and select your parameter, drawing a pattern on this track with [ctrl]+[LMB]+drag it automatically generates curve patterns. Those are beautiful to edit and much more relaxing.

Here and there, though, I do prefer recording my actions. I wished there was a conversion option into curve patterns, though.

The other thing I noticed about such curve patterns is that you can't loop them or edit them the way you'd do with normal note patterns. I understand the reason, but it's a little flimsy to me.

It's on the wishlist. And not at the bottom.

Huh? Yes you can loop them.

Post

Ooohhh, on the control points you can loop...duh... :dog: ...of course! Thanks, somehow I was only looking at the time line above like with the other patterns.

Post

I agree that that is a bit confusing. It's on the wishlist to make that more uniform.

There is a new MuLab 6.5.14 test version in http://www.mutools.com/forsythia
Latest changes:
  • Uniformalized the looks of the waveform display, LFO shape display and oscilloscope display.
Their front panel colors are now defined via the front panel -> Common Colors -> Shape Back/Fore and Wave Back/Fore Color.
The 'Shape' colors are for multi-point shapes like LFO shape and envelopes, the 'Wave' colors are for audio waveforms.
  • Waveform display: Buttons are positioned below the display now.
  • Waveform display: Waveform name field is automatically removed for small displays. In that case a tool tip shows the waveform name.
  • Added a "Choose From Library" function in the waveform context menu.
  • When chosing a waveform from the library list, the current waveform is highlighted.
  • Fixed a M6.5 crash bug when ignoring an unfound VST in a project/preset file.
  • Front panel: Numeric (Top Name) parameter: Display now uses centered text.
  • Finetuned the looks of the oscillator layers button on a front panel.
  • Front panel edit mode: When holding alt while click-dragging a border, this will move the component instead of resize.
How to upgrade from MuLab 6.5.x:
OSX: Simply replace the MuLab.app by the new version.
Windows: Simply replace the MuLab.exe + MuLab.ID files by the new versions.

How to upgrade from earlier versions eg M6.4: Make a full new install from the M6.5.7 package cfr the info on
http://www.mutools.com/info/docs/mulab/ ... ation.html
Then apply the new M6.5.8 app patch.
