Just throwing in my .02 here. I've used Cubase since SX1. Originally I was on windows producing rock stuff, I have however been on a MacBook since v 6.5 and am now on Pro 8 doing Electronic based stuff. Cubase has come a LONG way in terms of cpu consumption on a Mac, but it's not nearly what it is on windows (yet).

I love Cubase Pro 8, I still use it to record vocals, mix, and master. I start all my projects in bitwig now because I feel Cubase is too much when composing (I also hate the window clicking workflow bs, the one window workflow like S1 has is much better). But, to each his own.

I will say though, Cubase has routing and PDC perfected. It's the best DAW out there imo in that respect.

DEMO ALL THE DAWS haha, seriously though there's so many out there, I ended up with Bitwig on a whim and I absolutely love it now. You never know what you'll find!

Don't exclude Bitwig either, it's not that far away and you might get kick from new workflow approach, clip launching and stuff, sense Live will freak you out properly and what's left on OS X that is worth mentioning, yeah, pretty much you are back on Logic in 2 hours
In my opinion, Live & Bitwig are the same : good for audio, horrible when you wanna use instruments.
Ehm, no (for that, I like it better than Logic) But I'm not going to change your thoughts and I'm certainly not going to recommend either for projects with 100+ tracks. ;) Besides, they both have a different workflow which you're obviously not after.
Someone said earlier, all DAWs have their problems and he was right. But if I were to look for a replacement of Logic, I'd look into Studio One first. I've heard (so, not first hand I'll admit) that Cubase isn't that optimized for OS X. And if Wavelab is any indication, I'm inclined to believe that.
Hope you'll find what you're looking for though!

Yeah I've heard that there had been great improvements about CPU use.

You have a macbook, I have 2 30'' displays. That explains why I prefer a window based interface :p

Not all of them. At least not all of them in detail. I juste spent 3 minutes with reaper, and I know it's not for me ! ;)

Thanks ! ;)
Of course cubase isn't optimised for macs as well as logic. But when Logic crashes, it doesn't even use half of my CPU...

3 minutes, what take you that long, I remember just seeing it and closing it immediately

Yeah, curious to know how you'll like Cubase. I would stay away from ProTools, but I'll give you an oddball option: Digital Performer. New version just out, has been around for ages. Can't hurt to check it out.

You need 300 tracks for a trance track? Why, is it Trance Opera?
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

Layering these days, few leads, but layered across 50 channels , one bass, 5 channels , drums 15 channels, fx's, like 20 channels, than doubles and so on :P

As a Studio One (now v.3) on mac user, I don't think there's a mac in existence that can get 300 tracks in S1. It's been shown to be the most inefficient DAW there is on the mac platform, which is very unfortunate because it's so great in many other respects. People have been complaining about the mac (and PC for that matter) performance for awhile, but v.3 has gotten even worse for many people. I don't plan on selling my copy, but intend to probably buy Logic X to supplement it.

Yeah that's pretty much it ;)
Also I use a lot of FX in the breakdown (omnisphere atmospheric FX, different psytrance-like noises, with huge delay & reverb), and sometimes orchestral instruments. They only play for 16/32 bars.

Yeah, that's the drill :tu:

Anyways, if you can get over 8 insert slots, I think you will be satisfied with Cubase, I remember that at least in the not so distant past Logic&Cubase were staple DAW's of majority of trance guys, with Logic dominating more on trancy uplifting side and Cubase on psytrance side, it might be PC/Mac thing too to some extent and Logic 5.5 split, but still, so many records are made on both till this second, but again, your issue is how well it runs on Mac, so yeah, hope all turns out for the best, maybe who knows, when machine upgrade comes, you invest money in some custom built PC and get most out of Cubase, if you of course, decide to go Cubase :tu:
