Also I use a lot of FX in the breakdown (omnisphere atmospheric FX, different psytrance-like noises, with huge delay & reverb), and sometimes orchestral instruments. They only play for 16/32 bars
Yeah, that's the drill :tu:

Anyways, if you can get over 8 insert slots, I think you will be satisfied with Cubase, I remember that at least in the not so distant past Logic&Cubase were staple DAW's of majority of trance guys, with Logic dominating more on trancy uplifting side and Cubase on psytrance side, it might be PC/Mac thing too to some extent and Logic 5.5 split, but still, so many records are made on both till this second, but again, your issue is how well it runs on Mac, so yeah, hope all turns out for the best, maybe who knows, when machine upgrade comes, you invest money in some custom built PC and get most out of Cubase, if you of course, decide to go Cubase :tu:
I can put more than 8 effets with bus channels. A little annoying, but it works.
Yeah most tech trance producers use Cubase (Thirlwall, Indecent Noise), but also uplifting ones (MLS, Darren Porter, Thrillseekers). So I'll be able to do what I want with it. Two questions remain : the plugin bridge for Sylenth and Vanguard, and the compatibility with newer systems.

I do only have a 15" Macbook, but I also have a 30" display I connect it to in order to have two monitors. Yes the dual displace makes the Cubase interface 100x more tolerable, but I think there is something to be said for the workflow of DAWs like S1, Bitwig, Ableton, etc.

Also, to actually Demo a DAW I would suggest attempting to make a track in each one you demo. At least spend a few hours with it, read about its strengths and weaknesses online on the user forums and such. There are a ton of things you might miss by only using something for 5 minutes and ditching it (some of which could be game changing features that weren't immediately obvious).

That being said, Cubase is the shit and I don't think you'll find a better DAW out there. :tu:

In my opinion 2 big displays enable you to see everything you need, whereas 1 and a half (that is to say an desktop display with a small MBP display) wouldn't be enough for me. But that's just how I see things. :)
Some things are deal breakers, and my tests will consist in finding them. For instance : Ableton Live : no mixer -> out !

Yeah, you will find that out instantly (does internal bridge works in your favor and your OS) :tu:

Protoculture is using Cubase too 8)

Not the compatibility thing. What I want is Cubase 8 to be compatible with OSX 10.11, 10.12, 10.13, etc. Can't check that now.

About the compatibility thing : what I want is to be able to update to El Capitan and the following versions of Mac OS X, without buying any update of Cubase. Just the same as if I bought cubase 6 a few years ago, and if I wanted to use it right now on Yosemite. And apparently, only the latest version runs correctly on the latest system.

Well, if using Cubase, why staying on a Mac on long run, really, don't wanna start Mac vs PC war, but I have some idea how things are going with Apple and except having Macbook and Logic, I don't see much point sticking with them, at least for full power desktop audio duties using Cubase, on long run you can build amazing PC, have your own way to some extent, save up even and gain more out of it, don't know, your thing, but it's worth thinking about that too I guess :tu:

Already thought about that. I'm on mac, it will stay that way. El Capitano has made huge improvements, the beta 1 (for those who don't know what that means, that is the first test version, so really really buggy) is as stable as Yosemite ! I've worked on windows, and judging fro what Apple has done with EC, I won't go back on windows.
On the other hand, since EC is very stable, I might stick to it for 2 or 3 years. So I just need to check that Cubase 8 will be compatible with El Capitano ! ;)

Honeymoon phase, I get it, but one of these days you will see that you are there with Apple, so yeah

No seriously, Yosemite is more buggy than windows, but El Capitano works great. On beta.
