Well, one approach to a BSC would be for all Challengers to orchestrate & remix the same multi-part MIDI file (eg switched on bach) using only Basic Synths. Then it could become a Demo

Count me out of that, though, I won't do it. Would be no fun what so ever.
I leave remix and orchestration to DJs and orchestrators, hehe...I'm more on the composing and designing end of the spectrum.

It does seem a little weird sometimes when changing a "preset" and it turns into a completely different synth but once you get used to the concept its not too much of a problem but its also why I have put all the Musynth presets in their own folder.

It's intended architecture. The choice of sound should not be limited by the device. Why would that be good? Think NI Kore: They built a system to get a uniform contiguous soundlibrary. MUX is designed to do so from the ground up. Does it matter whether a certain bass sound is made by Basic Synth or MuSynth or user patch X that also includes VST x or y? No it's about that sound. Whatever the 'device'.

PS: I understand your feedback on this from a emotional pov, i recognize the feeling. I guess it's about having a familiar starting point, eg a certain synth plug-in device. But then: Isn't it also limiting inspiration knowing that a certain (VST) plug-in/device device is hard fixed? That's the nice thing about any MUX patch, including something like Basic Synth: You can always dive into it and expand it as you want. It's open ended.
Of course maybe i'm missing something. If so pls enlight me.

New MuLab 6.5.17 test version in http://www.mutools.com/forsythia
Latest changes:
OSX: Simply replace the MuLab.app by the new version.
Windows: Simply replace the MuLab.exe + MuLab.ID files by the new versions.
How to upgrade from earlier versions eg M6.4: Make a full new install from the M6.5.7 package cfr the info on
http://www.mutools.com/info/docs/mulab/ ... ation.html
Then apply the new M6.5.8 app patch.
Latest changes:
- Improved MuDrum layout: Element 3 has been minimized so it only contains a display where you can choose the extra plug-in module for this drum pad. More specifically the embedded Element 3 MUX editor has been abandonned because it added more complication than benefit. An extra advantage of this simplification is that sampler displays 1 and 2 have more space now. Another advantage is that you can insert a VST directly, without having to go via a MUX Modular.
- MuDrum and Drum Note Processor: The pads now also light up when playing very short notes.
- More efficient animation of the MuDrum pads, generally resulting in a bit more snappy UI, especially on slower systems or upon high CPU usage.
- When starting editing a front panel from a default one, the shown default parameter components are preserved so you can start editing from what you saw.

...about the earlier post on preset presets...
Uh, if that was directed at me, ahm...I completely and utterly adore, adore, adore MUX exactly the way it is, because I hardly EVER use presets, except very, very few of my own, haha.
I might actually make some templates, which I should offer all of you then, too, if you like those, but other than that it is one of the most awesome and most beautiful things about mux, that you can go straight into the heart of it and just make up a sound from inside out. It's liberating, empowering and straight up brilliant!
Maybe I should only make one template for myself:
- drumset [the whole skeleton with only the most tedious drum-polysynths prepared, but otherwise only with the most basic polysynth mux and empty ones, all hooked up neatly to the DrumNoteProcessor and in chains with Balance 1>2 to main amp and effect]
Other than that, it's such a piece of cake to make any sound I like. Maybe some front panel stuff could justify some more templates, but other than that.... I love it!
I just have a hard time to consider any MUX preset as a kind of "tweakable" synth. I'm almost convinced it took me longer with this to noodle a sound into the direction of what I want, always ending up with some compromise, rather than just making it myself on the fly almost perfectly into what I want it to be. No redundancies, no compromises, no regrets!
Certain things cannot be provided with the front panels as they are now, which would be necessary, if one would want to make a truly wholesome preset, where front panel operations would allow you to get anything you want. But because you might as well go into the modular guts of them, there's no need for Jo to break his head over such things. [redirecting modulation sources to various targets, set polyphony/mono...lots of other stuff.] But it just is not necessary. Yet, it makes the front panel really "only" a control surface for the synth you've created underneath. And that's cool by me- all the way!
SO, don't get me wrong, I feel no "pain" in that matter, hehe. I'm very happy!

Wahahaha...man, you're funny! That's hilarious and nice! I figured this is going to be so meaningful and deep...maybe even a revelation... but then you go: "These LFOs have different timings...so they're off... like floating points (?!?
)... That's it."
Hahahaha, man, that was great!
Definitely sounds very nice. You should have plenty of fun with all the new front panel stuff, but you might be compelled to arrange the stuff a little differently to make it feel less overwhelming at first sight, haha.

Anyway, nice to meet you, Dakkra!

Hmmmm...that brings up a different point, in case interfaces could get a little heavy. I wonder, if there could be a tab system (
)...ok, that was too much, sorry about that.
The really silly thing is, of course, that I personally don't quite care about that anyway. Just looking at a loaded interface like the above, I can see that it can get utterly tight.

All jokes aside; you have a fabulous tutorial setup there. Get a light from above, though, then the whole camp-fire-spooky-story vibe goes away, too.
I could imagine you putting up some excellent demos/tutorials.
I'm not sure what on earth I'm waiting for, bu...ooohhh, yes, of course, 6.5 final!

Nice soundscape dakkra. But i hear some clicks from time to time. Do you hear them too? If yes are they intended/explainable from your patch logic? I've a little trouble isolating the clicks as it's a quite complex patch. I'm not sure if there is something wrong or not. If you think there are erroneous clicks pls make the project/patch as simple as possible but keeping the clicks, then email it to me so i can investigate the clicks straight away. Thx.dakkra wrote:While we're on the topic of MUX sound design...![]()
