How to change Presswerk's VST id?

So as some people here already know, you can't send a project with presswerk between OSX and Windows because the VST has a different id.

Has anyone ever figured out a way to manually change the way the VST is identified by the DAW?

I don't care about my old projects, but for me its a huge workflow killer to have my projects stuck on my windows desktop / mac laptop without having to completely reprogram my Presswerk compression settings :(

I hope this is not illegal, but I am a legit owner of Presswerk and just want to be able to move projects between Windows and OSX

You would need to modify the plugin file itself, so yes, it kinda is illegal. Wait for u-he to fix it.

Guess this is the motivation I need to get a Mac Pro :hihi:

Seriously though, I don't think this bug is fixable without breaking peoples projects. So I will just have to use a different compressor until 2.0 or I get a Mac desktop

Maybe urs can save us in the meantime and provide an unnoficial version with this fixed

We're working on a project converter for affected hosts.

Thing is, if we fix it straight away, it'll affect 1000+ people. If we don't fix it, we currently know of less than 5 people who can't use it crossplatform. Note that not all hosts are affected, and to our surprise it also affects a few of our other 64-bit plug-ins with correct IDs, e.g. a Cubase project done with ACE(x64).dll won't open an ACE.vst instance on Cubase Mac (but it does open it on Cubase for 32 bit Windows). This whole thing is kind of nerve wrecking, and the only viable solution we got told from Steinberg is to "patch the project files". Which we're gonna do :)

We've hired a freelance developer to create the GUI for this tool on Mac, Win and Linux. We already have a command line tool almost finished on Mac that does the trick.

Once projects can be patched, we can also fix the plug-in. But we still hope that Steinberg will support crossplatform compatibility for all plug-ins that have the x64 label in their dll-name.

Interesting.
I use Nuendo on PC, Cubase on Mac 64 bit on either...
I guess I am lucky in that I mostly use Zebra (64) and Diva (64) and never really use presswerk or ace so haven't encountered the issue.
But why does it only affect a few plugins.....strange indeed.

Yep, all my other u-he plugins do this fine including:

Uhbik
Bazille
Hive
Diva

Just Presswerk that gives me trouble. This is on Bitwig Studio 1.1.8 64 bit, I could try it out with Reaper as well.

Thanks for the update Urs... this is the only annoying part about Presswerk I can think of, the rest is pure awesomesauce :)

Forgot Hive, which I have been using a lot too and no such issues.

Technically it is possible. I recently did it with Spiral CM - how is in this thread:
