Just in case you were getting bored of the 2000 presets available with Hive, there's another 200 plus on the way to wet your creative appetites. Mysterious Hexagon is crafted for a wide variety of styles and genres, with a character all it's own. It makes extensive use of Hive's comprehensive modulation capabilities to give a series of evolving textures that will inspire the creation of your latest composition or give it that unique sonic quality that it needs. All the patches utilize modwheel, with many employing further modulation capabilities such as aftertouch. Expect this release to be available for purchase in 4 to 5 days.
Until then, here's a short series of demo's with more to follow:

It's unique, that's for sure!
I didn't feel like there is a single style I could pin these sounds too. I heard some patches that sounded like they would lend themselves well to Chiptune, but creativity could help make them work in a dance style
.
Well done! It's great to see new patches! ^__^

What I try to do as a sound designer is following the synth wherever it may take me rather than thinking programmatically about genres as such. You're very unlikely to see me do a soundset called, "Biggest Dubstep Wobbles Three". Not that I have anything against that sort of thing, it's just not for me. That being said, there's a lot in this soundset and others I've released that would fit into the main genres, it's just that I may approach them from a slightly oblique angle.Shiek927 wrote:It's unique, that's for sure!

This way of working extends to the work I've done on my own tunes as well. So for instances in some tunes I'm working on now (using my own personal stash of patches) I've written the sort of bass parts that a funk player would play, accompanied with some very Herbie Hancock style voicing and rhythmic accenting on electric piano , but I've accented the bass using wobbles and layered it in the way a dubstep producer might do, so you've got a collision of retro fusion/acid jazz styles along with something a bit more contemporary.
My attitude towards the tools we have available to us now is experiment and see what happens. It's amazing what you can do now with even the simplest setup, with a great deal of ease as well. So why not be imaginative?

Ooh indeed. Hive is a lot different to Dune 2, but has a lot of bang for the buck. I was pleasantly surprised by the tonal/timbral variation I could get with such an apparently limited tool set, especially when it came the different filter modes and driving the inputs in different ways, particularly in series. Lot's of fun working on this. I'll no doubt return to it at a later date. The only thing missing on it right now is sync, some more waveforms (both oscillators and lfos) and maybe fm, although truth be told I'm more a matrix fm guy, like fm8 etc, rather than the more simple implementations you get on a lot of synths. As it is though, there is still a lot explore there and I could probably create another similar sized set using what's there already. For bass in particular this thing is a beast. The only thing that comes close, for me, is Tal Noisemaker, and Hive may actually have a slight edge there because the bass seems more focused and tighter.aMUSEd wrote:Oooh!

Just bumping this to keep an interest going. Things have been running a bit late due to various unforeseen circumstance, but this set should be available by the end of this week.
