For those who use Reaper 64bit, i have solution, but i still think it is SynthMaster problem.

1. In options > preferences (or Ctrl + p) > Plugins > VST > VST compatibility - check "Bypass audio while ... ".
2. Run SynthMaster as Separate process - Open insert virtual instrument > right click on SM > Run as > Sep. process

After that, SM dont crash when save. (for me, hope this help others)

I am saying this once again: I can NOT reproduce this issue on any of my systems and therefore I can not figure out a solution. We have sound designers who work on Windows and they could not reproduce the issue as well.
Are you and they using the 64 bit version? I can easily get the 64 bit version to crash but the 32 bit version is way stable. Also the latest windows? because I do know a good bit of people didn't jump on Windows 8.1...

Because when the latest version first became available I was able to save presets in the 64 bit version pretty much consistent without too much trouble but now I consistently get crashes trying to save a patch. I hope its not some time bomb type thing being that I actually legitimately own a license for the vst...smh Anyway this plugin is really getting hampered down with bugs, it's beyond annoying...
I can assure you that it has nothing to do with copy protection!

hmm.. Are you use latest version of Reaper (4.78) ? And try delete synthmaster temp folder in Documents on drive C. Before delete make copy for shure, if something goes wrong.

If you before dont have this problem, did you install some new VST / VSTi before SM started crash? If yes, what VST/VSTi?

I had this issue also, and I am using Sonar X3 Producer 64-bit and Windows 8.1

For me, I could save the first initialized preset, but it was always the 2nd one I tried to save that would make it crash. Every single time, I would restart Sonar, go back and try it again, 2nd preset each time...weird! :?

Anyway...I tried a million things to try and fix it this morning, but nothing worked. Then I tried something different: Even though I have Windows 8, I set Sonar to run in compatibility mode for Windows 8...which didn't seem like it should make a difference, as it is Win8 anyway, but now it works! :tu:

DocShay wrote:Crazy thing is I just sent a bug report for this bug today upon discovering a consistent way of replicating it, to replicate...

1.load Synthmaster
2.Select any patch,
3.Rename author of the patch without pressing "enter"
4.Save-as(name it whatever you want)
5.Click save and it should crash if not on the first try it will definitely crash on the second with those steps.

Hope this gets fixed, because I like to edit existing patches to make new sounds...
and I replied back to you, but still I can NOT reproduce it. I tested with 32bit version of Reaper, 64bit version of Reaper, but still both work just fine. I know this is frustrating for you (as it is for me as well), but if I can not reproduce a problem I can not fix it. I also reviewed by code, and saw nothing buggy in it. The only thing that comes to my mind is the Windows Open File dialog might be somehow causing a problem on your system.

Well, more than one year after, the bugs are still very present (Windows 10, Reaper 64 bits). I encountered a couple of them and yet I never read this thread before. In particular, the preset browser is very fragile, as I've said before, and I just uploaded a preset that exhibits the behaviour that was mentionned before (endless loop). See the bugs thread for that.

kv331, I agree the random nature of the bugs make them hard to reproduce (unitialized variables/structures maybe ?).
But if you still couldn't reproduce some bugs, maybe you should ask for a zip of the SynthMaster folder, for logs, etc ? I'm surprised you've never asked that as that's pretty much the first thing you need for debugging (software development is also my job).

But above all, what is very annoying is how unreactive and unresponsive you are with your community. As users, we expect high reactivity here especially from a small company, and it's rather the opposite that we see. I've reported 2 bugs since dec, 6 and I haven't seen any response to my posts. Yet I know from your profile that you come here almost daily. It feels as if the development of the product was a side activity for you and you were no longer committed to it, or that you don't care about your customers. Anyway, this disregard of users posts, this impression that you're not willing to help, don't give a good impression of you and your company. Yet it shouldn't take too much time for you to respond given this bulletin board is almost dead, which is unsurprising given your users are discouraged by your behaviour.

I like this product, I like its pricing, and I can live with the occasional bugs. But I cannot recommend SynthMaster to people, because of that.
