Hey guys,

am I right in assuming that no version of Tracktion will be able to send MIDI messages to a "custom" control surface?

I just bought a GS-R24M and would love to make use of the motorized faders.
While I can get Tracktion to read the MIDI data from the faders, there doesn't seem to be a way to get Tracktion to send the MIDI data back to the desk... :(

But maybe I'm just missing something...?

Is there a way to run it in MCU emulation mode?

I have 3 BCF2000's running that way and it works fine.

No...sadly it can only emulate some obscure Tascam device and Mackie's HUI protocol, both unknown to Tracktion.

IMO it would be very cool (and not that hard to implement) to allow a custom control interface to also have a MIDI output device.

It would indeed be nice if a customisable setup was possible, but in the meantime a quick look at the A&H site seems to show that they actually have templates for Bome's Translator to enable this console to be used with various DAWs. Bome's, if you're not familiar with it, is a bit of software that translates MIDI messages on the fly. Looks like the console does 'plain' MIDI as well as HUI and the Tascam US-2400.
Since the mixer's own MIDI control set seems to be listed in the manual, perhaps you'd be able to adapt or modify one of the existing templates to work with something Tracktion supports?

Ah, thanks for this tip!

The Pro version of Bome's can indeed be used to make the desk work with Tracktion.

To make use of all 24 faders, you can emulate a Mackie Control Unit with 2 Extenders.
Emulating other units may work as well though none of Bome's presets was of any help to me.
Therefore, setting it up is a major PITA (for example, MCU sends Pitch bends for fader movements, the desk requires CC messages).
