Well, nevertheless buying a copy of this particular issue will give readers an in-depth 4 page interview with Martin L. Gore. Well worth it for less than 3 quid I paidrobotmonkey wrote:So no magazine needed at all. Seems that MusicTech has not thought this out thoroughly. Is the V-Station on the DVD download the same as the full version does anyone know? I am guessing it is a cut down free version. Interested in trying this one out. Thanks

Nope these are all the same as the retail versions. Same functionality (not crippled down) and without magware logo's (like you see on the Beat and CM software).alexmshore wrote:Is the V-Station on the DVD download the same as the full version does anyone know? (or V-Station "only 249.99$)

Oh well got it installed, quite a nice sound, reminds me a lot of the old Pro 53 (esp the sync leads)
Patch 'browsing' is a mess though and the patches have really unhelpful names like Bass 23.

If you change your computer (or part of it), does the licence file still work? Presumably it doesn't, which is the whole point of challenge/response protection.EvilDragon wrote:It's totally a non-issue. I just authorized it, got the licence file, AND got it in my inbox. I moved that to my inbox "stash" which never gets deleted. That's about it. Just gotta do this ONCE. And never again.sockofgold wrote:The point is that is requires an authorization server to be able to use it, and one cannot count on that always being available. It's not a "non issue" at all.
This is totally fine by me.
I think all companies who use C/R protection should be bound by law to release a protection-free version of the software if they ever go bust - this could be held by a central 'VST authority', who could just host the file (obviously not samples or other large files, just the VST itself). Companies could pay them a small fee each year (under $50) and then say "We are members of the 'VST authority' (whatever they decide to call it) - you are protected in the event that our company folds, and will be able to download a non-protected copy of our software in that instance."

Yeah, I never have managed to figure out why they are listed like that either.aMUSEd wrote:Patch 'browsing' is a mess though and the patches have really unhelpful names like Bass 23.
Instead of listing patches in submenus for Arps, Leads, Basses etc, they are are listed in one long list like Arp1, Lead1, Bass1, ..., Arp2, Lead2, Bass2, ... Arp3, Lead3, Bass3, etc
Would be neat to have them in submenus, I wonder if it is possible to achieve that someway or other?

They are listed like that because K-Station had the same order. Also on K-Station you could jump in pages, 10 programs at a time, which always lands you on the same type of sound because of this particular order.Numanoid wrote:Yeah, I never have managed to figure out why they are listed like that either.

OK, thanks for the info.EvilDragon wrote:They are listed like that because K-Station had the same order. Also on K-Station you could jump in pages, 10 programs at a time, which always lands you on the same type of sound because of this particular order.
The VST plugin patch browser can't perform the same kind of jumps?

Nope, it doesn't have the "Page" button that K-Station does.

Thankfully the solution for me is that these all seem to import into NI Kore, which I can now use to organise them more usefully, so I have made a Kore controller template for them for anyone that wants it.Numanoid wrote:Yeah, I never have managed to figure out why they are listed like that either.aMUSEd wrote:Patch 'browsing' is a mess though and the patches have really unhelpful names like Bass 23.

For non Kore owners maybe Zen can help?
Anyone know why Bass 1 doesn't make a sound?

Nice rant ... but it doesn't apply here. Copy protection is a serial number only (no C/R). The plugins get registered to your Novation account in case you need to download them again or forget your serial number. You can install them as often as you like.basslinemaster wrote:

Instead of simply clicking the preset selection button (up or down), keep it pressed: it will behave like the "Page" button.
