Hi,

I've just installed MuLab (Windows 7). I would like to upgrade to the paid version but, unfortunately, the first VST plug-in I've tried to install has "failed".
LoadLibrary for VST plug-in 'BagPipes.dll' failed, msw error=
Couldn't create VST instance for BagPipes
This is a VST produced by http://www.soundbytes.de/

Could anyone give me advice, please?

Hello Runaudio,

Thank you for your reply.

Well, I guess the good news - thanks to you - is that it can work! The bad news is that I can't get it to do so!

I'm using demo versions of both but am using 1.1 as you appear to be doing.

Understandably - I hope! - I've been put off learning MuLab because of the issue. You seem to be using something called a Galta Rack... hmm... I wonder whether I'm loading the VST plug-in wrongly...

I can't get any replies from Soundbytes, unfortunately, so I'm not sure where to go from here.

But thanks for showing that it CAN be done.

Gaita Rack is nothing more than the VST's preset name on that specific rack, it's nothing special. However, I notice that runaudio is using jBridge which could be why you can't get it working. Are you using the 64bit version of MuLab by any chance?

I am guessing that this plug in is 32bit and you are trying to use it in MuLab 64bit, won't happen, not unless, as runaudio is doing, you use jBridge. Use MuLab 32bit for 32bit VST's and MuLab 64bit for 64bit VST's.

Hello sl23,

Thank you very much for taking the trouble to explain and advise.

I downloaded jBridge, followed the instructions to convert the plug-in into 64 bit, etc... but...

On trying to load it into MuLab...

"Exception while creating effect for Bagpipes.dll
Couldn't create VST instance for Bagpipes"

I feel I'm disappearing down some technical rabbit hole! Life was easier with my Mellotron, Korg, VCS3 and 4-track tape recorder! :D

Thanks again!

First, which version of Mulab are you using?

MANY THANKS to both of you!

I got it working! I had to run MuLab as Administrator to get it to work.

Now to make the neighbours' lives horrendous with constant bagpipe playing! haha [Only fair: they play (c)rap music all the time!

Glad to hear BarryS enjoy makeing music

It's pointless using jbridge if you don't need it. I use MuLab 32bit as most of my VST's are 32bit. I'd like to use 64bit but WILL NOT INSTALL software needlessly, not even VST's. JBridge isn't a necessity it's an option. An option that is going to make this guy's life unnecessarily troublesome.

BarryS, just download this version of Mulab and try your VST's in it. Done and dusted.

Glad you got it working :tu:

This means you have made an error in installing MuLab. You should not put MuLab under "C:\Program Files" as it wants write access to its own directory and Windows does "magic" that breaks things when programs try this. You should always put MuLab outside any Windows-managed folder structure.

Hello pljones!
Thank you for your message.
Actually, it's installed at the root: C:\MuLab
It's jBridge that complains if the exe file doesn't have Run As Administrator checked.
I've tried an experiment: I removed the Run As Admin check from MuLab's exe file. MuLab tried to load the VST plug-in but failed. I received a message pane from jBridge advising me to give it Admin rights. I then rechecked the Run As Admin and MuLab loaded the VST plug-in fine.
I may go over to the 32-bit version to avoid third party involvement.
Thanks again.

I don't understand why Apple/ Microsoft didn't build in 32-64 bit bridging in OSX / Windows. Would have avoided lots of complications for all kinds of applications.

mulab should have it builded in
