Will not Play...?

I guess this is a bug... but I don't have any error messages and I have no clue how to debug.

When I press 'play', my edit will not play. I unfroze my tracks, and then it would play, but CPU usage was so high that it wouldn't play properly-- which is why I had them frozen in the first place.

Re-froze, and it won't play.

What the heck?? This will make finishing my mix very difficult. It has to be done by Saturday morning.

On a related note--

Remind me to limit myself to 16-bit 44.1k recordings until I get a beefier system. I dinna like all this freezing. ;)

Just a bit of an update--

1. I haven't sussed the playback glitch yet... it's weirding me out. I can't tell if it's Tracktion or a plugin, but I lean toward the former because it's only happening after freeze...?

2. Since I had to start a new edit anyhow, I resampled everything to 44.1 , 16 bit before importing into the new edit. As it turns out, the sample rate had less to do with things than the multiple VST effects I had loaded. (Green Machine Amp II is providing spectacular sounds and great flexibility... but my humble system doesn't like having more than 4 active instances of it)

I'm a T newbie, but posting here is free :) and this might help:

You could try freezing the tracks one at a time to see if it's a single plugin that's causing the prob.

I think rendering allows the option not to replace the original track, so if it's just one track; mute the original track (and if the CPU still dies save VST presets and disable the filters) and play back the audio track... you still have the midi and the sounds in case you have change something.

This has happened to me before also, but only once. I can't recall what I "did" to fix it. However, I think it was something as simple as unfreezing the tracks, saving the edit with them unfrozen, restarting my computer, re-opening Tracktion and playing them unfrozen for a few seconds, then freezing them again, and they were back to normal.

So, there's a nice run-on sentence for you to chew on, but hopefully it will help you out.

Cheers, guys.

I'm trying to avoid rendering, because these are all tracks that I'm still working on. I have to edit the MIDI as my drum beat evolves and changes, and I have to be able to slice up audio parts, loop them, and shift them around still. Worse yet, I'm going to need them ALL kicking around for when I do the mix.

I did as Andrew suggested, and it seems to be up and going again. For now. ;)

Cheers,
Greg
