U-He can't tho. The gap is slowly but steadily getting bigger.

On the other hand, Zebra 2 (and HZ) is still relevant. Awesome synth with amazing features!

Post

It absolutely is!

Judging from Hive and other developments it is going to take some time to develop and finish Z3.

Im wondering if we will see at least beta this year.

I don't think that's true. I think the gap as such has never even narrowed :clown:

There may be other synths that look posher but I can't see anything that does what Zebra does. That said, hats off to those who finally discovered something similar to Zebra's oscillator effects (but I'm still not sure if there's anything out there that lets one modulate them).

On the other hand, no-one else seems to attempt to create easy modularity by moving complexity into few, powerful and diverse modules. It's either complex modules in a fixed structure or great modularity with simple modules.

I also think the quality of the algorithms themselves is still pretty good. If anything we could probably add a filter based on the tech in Hive/Bazille and maybe one of our recent reverbs.

Bazille's spring reverb perhaps?

Sure, that's also an option. I was merely thinking about plate reverbs...

Yeah, I have to say that I bought Zebra 2... I think around the time it was released. Of course, it's been consistently updated (with free updates!) and I still use it all the time and never think, "o'oh, it's getting long in the tooth!" Yeah, there is stuff with different "character" and what-not, but I have to say that Urs isn't just patting his own back on this one. If you look at the category of modular software synths, I think Zebra still has a few laps on the competition.

That said, I would love to see Filterscape's filter morphing brought into Zebra and the wavetable like functions expanded a bit. I already love Diva's filters in HZ. I wouldn't mind a stripped down Satin delay based effect either.

That :hyper:

Maybe an option to have a bit cleaner oscillator ? :)
