cytomic made it even worse, they encrypted a full block with RSA4096, so everytime the plugin gets called this full has to be decrypted in memory and this takes still a fair amount of resources.2ZrgE wrote:Problem with U-he's way: You cannot control how many licences are activated. People can share one licence for example. If the serial is shared, of course it can be blacklisted. But if a group of people team up to buy, you cannot do anything about it.lesha wrote:No dongles, please. Contacting Urs is the way to go.
For this reason for example Cytomic uses C/R instead of a U-he style serial protection (I think I read that in the "Drop" thread some time ago).
i think urs way is still the best, i mean i dont have the time and the passion to mail everytime the support to get a new Response code. with uhes way, you just enter the serial and fine. also imagine you are somewhere where you dont have internet and forgot to activate sylenth1 before you moved? then you screwed with this method or does LD also offer a hotline for the Response code then?
and i hope also that there is not extra license center on top, i hate it to install additional software.
as example: RSA2048+AES+B64 for serial/license data and add (a) checksum(s) to the plugin, which prevents from patching the public keys(should result in a output muted or something).
also some time bombs would be great.
keep it in your mind to make it as easy as possible for the people, who paid for Sylenth1 and as hard for the crackers and groups. it should be a benefit to pay for Sylenth1 and not the other way around.

My vote was for current serial number protection but I want to say couple of words about iLok2 protection scheme too.
It's very comfortable for the End User, especially if the company allows at least 2 activations. 1 - on the dongle key and another one on the Mac/PC itself. This is how Eventide, iZotope, AIR Music, Plugsound, Soundtoys and others do.
Yes, you need to spend about 20-30-50 bucks to purchase a physical iLok2 key but this is one time purchase (if you won't brake it in the future) and, in some cases, you don't need a physical key at all. Before i've purchased 1st iLok2 product I was very skeptical about using my always busy laptop's USB for a dongle but now i can see almost all products i use doesn't require for a iLok2 key and this is very convenient. (P.S. Slate Digital and Lexicon requires iLok to be plugged in every time and i hate this... really...)
So probably iLok2 is not a bad idea if you want to protect your software

all devs can put their dongles in the ass. i am in no way buying an ilok just to use sylenth1.clos2u wrote:My vote was for current serial number protection but I want to say couple of words about iLok2 protection scheme too.

not to mention, i have got not enough USB slots left and i am not buying an usb hub just for sylenth1.
last one, i in no way pay for the devs protection.
look at urs from u-he protection, his plugins are uncracked and its doable.
EDIT: one more: i am also not to keen to create an ilok account.
just go abit crazy with the protection, but still make cpu saving.

Dongles don't seem to be an option for them anyway: http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... 6#p5977046
Btw, Urs never stated that their copy protection is uncrackable afaik. It's just that it seems to be a huge PITA to crack it, thus crackers won't bother. It surely is doable. In the end, everything is crackable, it's just a matter of how much effort you'd be willing to spend. If Lennardigital wants to go that way is up to them. There's enough alternatives available i think. In the end, i don't even know if it's really worth the discussion. The impact of warez on the audio app market is at least arguable. Yes, trance producer XY has been caught in a Future Music production techniques video. Who cares, as most probably he owns a valid license anyway.
Most of the kids downloading a warezed version of the plugin (who probably make the biggest part of warez users) won't be using it seriously anyway.

it isnt about being uncrackable, its about being unserialfishable.
i guess you dont have the knowledge for that. the goal for the reverse is to have the most permanent solution for a target, this implies a keygen or a working serial or be able to serial fish a serial fromt he target itself and thats what made urs impossible, so you have to manual patch it and to find all these time bombs he has implemented, there are also several riddles in the binary to confuse the reverse (he said himself that he studied the thinking of reverse for some month and their tools to be able to defeat it for future releases).
there was a topic a few months ago here on kvr where urs wrote something about his protection and he also showed up at some forums and discussed about it. he sees it more as challenge, i really like him for his synths and his thinking. he also had mail contact with a group a few years, they exchanged perspectives and helped in a way him to improve his protection. so no everybody is evil from that scene. i guess this got a bit out of hand here, i apologize.
and as one can see, last public releases from the teams dont work, they timebomb and thats what they call a really good protection.
i agree kids dont care, they will proud of using warez and to have a certain expensive plugin warzed in use. it is sad i know.
really hope the new sylenth1 protection is really user friendly, but still hard to bypass for the bad boys. i am sure LD will come with something nice up.

The new protection is a lot easier, no need to use the license.dat file or anything.

Nope, it isn't that exciting. We're in a (closed) beta and we're moving into public beta's within the next few weeks.
We're actually pretty excited....nothing Russian about that
