MJUC is wonderful, but nothing like bx_opto. I really like both and certainly don't regret upgrading.

I agree. They're both different. Nothing wrong with having both.

Does anyone know how long the "personal update" code is working? From the first mail offer that people probably got, not the "share and win" promo thing.

Currently out of big funds, and I am slowly trying to move on from my IKM collection.

Which brings me to the second question:
Anyone compared it to the IKM OPTO Comp and has some honest opinion about it?

Really loved this thing (IKM Opto) on vocals and bass, but I just can't relate with IKM's marketing/user politics anymore. And due to all the deals in recent years, I can't even sell these plugins.

why wouldn't you use IKM Opto then? i can relate to the marketing/user politics thing, but one thing they're definitely not bad at (unlike certain other companies) is support and regular updates, so you can count on being able to use the plugin for a long time. so why not use that, and compare with bx_opto for yourself?

that said, i have the Opto. being an opto, it covers a lot of similar ground, so the differences would IMO ultimately come down to taste. having never heard an actual opto compressor, i can only guess which one of them sounds closer to the real thing. one thing that bx_opto clearly wins over IK opto is sidechain filter - IK opto doesn't have one. then again, bx_opto doesn't have separate attack-release parameters.

I want to trim down on plugins again, and I barely even touch IKM tools anymore, which is a real pity as I liked the CALREC type clones, Opto and the one or another single plugin. Somewhere, IKM's T-Racks concept got lost on the way IMO.

Demoing is a thing - yes, I could do that. But I'm not too sure on demo times. IIRC, you can only demo once then never again. I just don't want to run into the risk of actually liking a plugin, but then not being able to use it until I have suitable funds. And then, there is no "upgrade price" anymore - just the regular one.

YMMV of course.

How much do you love the IKM opto one? I had the VC2A and this definitely beat it out for me. I like the extra control you get from this one. At the normal price its not enough of a difference to pay all the extra money but at this discount, its definitely worth it.

I finally did the $49 full opto upgrade from the once free pedal version, and combined the 48hr./$49ea. Museq and Passeq mega-sale, to get all three for a multi-discounted total of $122.50!

Me too! I just got PassEQ and BX Opto, though.

Very happy with both. Lovely to have a compressor with those four sidechain filter options, really finding it useful. It's super quick and grabby, I really like it. Been using it in conjunction with MJUC on some mixes, and I couldn't be happier!

PassEQ is a beast of an EQ. Really great for super low end and super high end stuff. More than two instances in a mix and you're in trouble, though.

I just downloaded but haven't yet tried the demo of the full version.

Anyone have any experiences and thoughts about this vs. IK's LA2A opto (aka the "White" compressor)???

When re-trying "vst world" recently, I forgot to give it a whirl!

But, it's a no brainer if you are already on in that realm. I'm sure it's a killer freebie! (and yes, I learned the HARD way to also take advantage of the soundtoys freebies, missed the first one

)

In my experience the LA2Ae emulations are more gentle and brighter sounding than the BX Opto. In my opinion the BX Opto is capable of much much more extreme compression than the LA2A and while, to my ears, it may not be as bright sounding as the LA2As, it still does a great job of maintaining the high frequencies. To me it sounds absolutely fabulous and is my new go to for an optical creative compressor for extreme cases and sound design. I have been thrilled with what it can do on a drum buss with both extreme and soft settings.

Just thought that I would add that the sound of the LA2A is pretty much a staple as well in much of what I do. Irreplaceable...
