This thread is the only reason I visit KVR at the moment, as I've not really been finding any direction in music for a while and visiting KVR is a terrible source of GAS - too many 'new' things that are just re-hashes of the existing things.
I'm hopeful that a new playground (with added programmer-friendly goodness) will lift me back where I'd like to be.
In the meantime, I'm getting back into C++ (with OpenGL) which is a brain-mangler for an aged Java programmer like myself, but also a fresh change.

I've been looking at Modulys the last day or so, really just to get me excited about something, but (not)-Epoch is really what I want.koalaboy wrote:This thread is the only reason I visit KVR at the moment, as I've not really been finding any direction in music for a while and visiting KVR is a terrible source of GAS - too many 'new' things that are just re-hashes of the existing things.

Fear not: I'm furiously striking the iron (or whatever the coding equivalent is) getting the final issues sorted.
Architect, the modular MIDI toolkit, beta now available for macOS, Windows, and Linux.

I'm completely ready to test on my new 40" 4K monitor - need to ensure plenty of screen estate for the complex !Epochtimationscolin@loomer wrote:Fear not: I'm furiously striking the iron (or whatever the coding equivalent is) getting the final issues sorted.

Well, since this epochal plugin just seems to simmer in it's own juices forever, I went to desperate means, creating midi with 3D modelling tools:

Actually a lot of fun

Yeah. I battled with myself for months, since I am not too hot about some of the ways of Rhino itself, but I fell deeply in love with Grasshopper. It's about the first time I find procedural modelling actual fun and well implemented, and the tons of (often free) plugins for it make it do about everything you can think of.koalaboy wrote:As if I need more reasons to buy Rhino.... Grasshopper is just simply awesome. [adds Rhino back to purchase list]
Now that I got it, I actually find Rhino much better than expected too, especially in combination with Thea Render.
Cheers,
Tom

nice stuff - particularly for the sonification possibilities translating out to a printer. Whilst the Epoch thing has been going on I've continued writing Midi in Matlab and investigated music21. (python) http://web.mit.edu/music21/ which is overkill and a bit clumsy for what i'm interested inThomasHelzle wrote:Well, since this epochal plugin just seems to simmer in it's own juices forever, I went to desperate means, creating midi with 3D modelling tools:

The list of outstanding things is getting shorter every day, but I certainly wouldn't expect it to drop before late September to be honest. I'm in full-on-intense-coding mode though, so who knows what miracles may pour fourth!
