Ejo, you are talking nonsense. I know of several professionally successful producers who use almost exclusively native software. You MAY have a point about reverbs, but otherwise, native plugins are widely accepted in the commercial arena.
No the guy is obviously correct.. no wonder albums like Pet Sounds, and SGT Pepper were so succesful Neither of those were produced using anything but the latest state of the art digital hardware. Neither of those used any of that nerdy lo-fi software crap or silly old tape machines and imaginative use of found objects :D
The Organ swirls on "Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite" were done by:
(1) Making or copying tapes (acetates) of different organ works (I think George Martin actually played them all, but I don't recall for sure)
(2) Cutting those tapes into segments (using scissors, not Audition) and tossing them into the air
(3) Picking up the pieces, sticking them together randomly, and playing them through a reel-to-reel deck. Some of the segments were accidentally glued in backwards, cementing (pardon the pun) the song's psychedelic feel.

Ah yeah, so much for "modern" equipment...and Ejo.

We shall see orchestral machines with a thousand new sounds, with thousands of new euphonies, as opposed to the present day's simple sounds of strings, brass, and woodwinds. -- George Antheil, circa 1925 ---

i own a small art gallery and have been told my work isn't 'real' art. i love that attitude. i guess my music isn't any good either, cuz somebody said so. i guess i'll just quit everything and get a real job.

oh, yeah, i got one of those, too.

i guess arrogance isn't reserved for only oil-rich fatcats, huh?

i'd rather have a mullet than a comb-over.
fortunately, i have neither.

EJo, Sonar55,

How comes that you're posting such a pile of bullshit?
You either have NO CLUE AT ALL or you are just the sort of "I'm wanking on my SSL" kinda dudes, being pissed that there's people actually SELLING stuff without having spent gazillions on expensive gear.

In any case, you're clueless idiots. At least that's what your postings suggest to anybody with an idea about what's happening in these times.

Oh yes, I know that none of you will reply to this thread again (at least EJo won't, as it happened before) because you just can't get any facts straight.
There are 3 kinds of people:
Those who can do maths and those who can't.

Wannabee oily-rich fat cats can have their fair share of arrogance too, as we have seen!

Sonar55 wrote:ejo is actually very right u bedroom producers have no freaking clue about the music business and how it works thats why i feel so bad for all these fruity loops mix's and traktion producers and reason beatmakers...

all your dreams will be crushed if your ever put in a position for a label to aquire your songs im not talking about a record label that your friend started out of his garage or some local nonsense we will release your record anyday now label im talking about a real label....

if your making music as a hobby thats cool but if your serious about this craft stop with the loop making software its gonna bite u in your ass in the longrun

do you really think a mastering engineer who graduated from the audio arts is gonna spend weeks trying to fix your poor quality songs just cause the lead is nice or the bass is good???

imo dont ever use a sequencer that doesnt include some kind of import/export to protools if u use nuendo or logic your ok cause they support omf which is alot easier for the mastering engineer...

you guys think that internet downloads make a song great, you think cause some guy who made a song with reason then invested his own money to put in on vinyl gives u some kind of inspiration that u can do it also...if thats what u wanna do do it...

but if your serious about this craft start understanding what the difference between quality and quantity is....

and im not just talking out of my butt i was in the same situation i had decent songs in almost all of the cheap sequencers but when i finally got my foot in the real studio door all my tracks were scrapped due to nothing but poor quality...

get serious or else youll be 40 years old telling your friends u got a record coming out anyday now...

Buddha bless you all! :)

Sonar55; When the label (studio?) told you that your music was low quality, were they speaking of the mix or the actuall music? :?

Damn, i liked those mp3's!

Just wanted to interject something I learned while working on my BA degree in Audio Engineering (and I still use VSTs... what an idiot! ):

Often, one will hear stories about the Beatles recording Sgt. Pepper on just a 4-track. The reality, as it was told to me, is that the album was recorded onto SEVERAL 2-inch 4-tracks, synchronized together. But its fun to imagine them all huddled around a Fostex cassette deck...

Otherwize, use real stuff. Especially software-only reverb plug-ins, compressors and EQ are really bad. Don't use that crap if you want to get anywhere with your music. And don't listen to what the people who can't affoard real stuff says.
Funny! My music is played in tv shows, on commercials in radio and TV, grocery stores and on-hold lines. How much bigger audience can you get than this?

I use almost all software with a pro-sumer keyboard.

I think I am living on a different planet.

aren't krafwerks even older than that ? ... old f**ts with laptops - how could they ?
Saw them this saturday. It was massive. I guess there's something wrong with me and the rest of that huge audience. I mean. We were stunned despite of those laptops.

I think this is very innovative. Reminds me of some of the early songs by Art of Noise.
I don't think you're giving the consumer the credit he deserves. No wonder there is tons of shit music around nowadays.

:o .. So you are Howlett from prodigy? Welcome at kvr, matey .. :hihi:

but then again your typing lacks though, as the phrase in the quote doesnt make sense. It´d need to be something like:

"well, i am howlett from prodigy and i did use Reason"

anyway, just a thought. Weclome Liam!
