Hasn't there been a 'Beethoven challenge' on YT where people produced music without hearing what they were producing? A nice excercise nevertheless...

He had it a lot easier, a violin sounds like a violin etc., and there is not much you can do about it.

Producing music today is much more complex.

Too old for what? I guess if you want to be the flavor of the week, try to be young teens?

As for making music, i dont think there is a one size fits all 'too old' number. Metallica, i think is too old, but theyre still playing and popular. If popular isnt what you are concerned with, theres Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax, FNM, Mudhoney, Sepultura, ,TON (rip), PJ harvey, how about Eins Neubauten, or that thing that plays guitar for the rolling stones? Mudvayne, fear factory secret chiefs.....

But yeah, try to be young teens or pre-teen if you want to be the next big bieber or babymetal.

But hearing loss isn't just a sonic cliff you fall off of. It's more like a filter. Think 12 db or 24 db low pass filter. It rolls off the frequencies beyond a certain cutoff.

So if you're having trouble hearing those frequencies above 15 kHz, just turn it up, Grandpa!! You just need those frequencies loud enough to surpass the filter curve of your bad ears!!

To be specific - im talking about hearing. Many occupations related to music depend on it - mixing engineers come to mind - i would like to know how older people cope with hearing loss, which sooner or later will creep in.

Age only diminishes hearing on a basic, superficial level. The ability to listen carefully and pick up small details is an entirely different aspect which will only get better as you keep training it.

Or, trust someone else to handle it. One band i listen to, i notice their albums kept getting a little more hissy as the years went on.
