EMI.
There is no reason why.

Groet, Erik
If they signed you, I guess you'd care
If they signed you, you would be fux0red.

You what? lost you there! :?

Don't do much pro performing these days though - I'm a writer (mostly educational music tutors - thousands sold accross UK, etc)

So gave up any pop star pretensions years ago, mate!

Liam .. is that true? :hihi:

oh .. there was a topic?

i for one also think that when the music you do (with what gear ever) is simply good, almost no one will really care how one did it.

but yes, there are certain levels of productions. And if one wants to go charts he most likely would need to have the "chart-sound", which is produced by producers and engineers all over the world in their engineer-production studios. (with briefing, consulting, meeting, dating and rating .. :hihi: )

But this shouldnt stop anybody from using whatever he wants to use, cause the music itself is what counts.
Take a gitar only having 2 strings and a singer knowing how to make a wonderful song with just his voice and this 2-stringed guitar ..
Take someone using fruity loops using an onboard-synth playing a fantastic melody, a working beat and a good bass. this alone *could* make us go "wowowow", if the music itself would just blow.

but even in this it of course helps to create a sound people´s ears are used to due to telly and radio. (that would be the engineer´s work with compressors, mixing, limiters, this and that)

most of us use these mixing/mastering tools, as we have software plugs giving us the chance. I belive that if one can handle these plugs quite good its absolutely possible to be "pro" enough.

but the possible better way would be to have someone really knowing the stuff, someone who learned it all, this art of producing/engineering .. to help you getting an even better sound .. and this all depends on where you want to go with your music.

its not black OR white .. and many of us have enough wonderful gear they like to make music .. jaha!

also depends on whether or not you need to be 'pro' in relation to the reasons you make music ...

... i too think that if the idea is good enough then the tools are good enough but when it comes down to it ...

... how many of us here ACTUALLY make music because we see it as a career ???

(if we did we wouldnt be here in most cases)

dont get me wrong - to get a deal and get something released would be SOOOOOO cool for most of us - but i for one am not holding my breath - i make music because i want to ... because i have to ... because i can ... NOT because i want a polished and preened 'pro' sound ...

... as ever - my analogy comes from the world of visual arts ...

... give me a lump of natural chalk from a hillside and a piece of flat rock and i can produce something as beautiful and emotive (if not more so) than your 'pro' graphic artist with his ubertopleet mac and huge graphics tablet and fully-loaded photoshop and years of training

ideas and experiments and creativity NOT tools

(but hell - i WOULD say that - i use fl-studio dont i ??? )

i wonder why 'hardware people' are usually so agressive and seem to need to eagerly spread their hatred against softwares now and then? :?

I don't think it's just 'hardware people'..

but think about this.. you've spend £15000 on equipment and then you learn you could have bought most of it in software and spend £1500.. I'd be pissed of as well..

I don't think any of them would ever want to admit -not even to themselves- that they might have spend way too much money

..and of course some people just love hardware and they take it a bit too far.. you know, like some of those idiots with their f**king dogs :P

Well think about it this way.

Most hardware is just a case used to keep the software running it falling onto the floor.

We were stunned despite of those laptops.
yowza makes me wanna vaio - with the new rme gadgets.

could some cute, mild-mannered rich girl marry me, please ?

sure, but then again it's the matter of (taddaaa) *them* - sudio owners, local label owners, distributors, radio-tv people et ceteris - who can lobby you out of their circle of influence in a matter of seconds if you want to play on your own and with software weaponry of your choice :P them bastards can even hold your payments.

but, to nurture you soft artistic side you can seek shelter at digital arts festivals anyway ....

That´s typical of those newbies like Sonar55 and EJo. They write a heap of crap and then they refuse to discuss their shit with other people. But most likely their IQ of <40 wouldn´t allow them to do this.
