hey guys

I'm after making the switch over from Ableton, and one thing I do miss are the variety of sequencers there are in max4live, thinking especially of polyrhythmus and Grids. Does anyone here use any VST step-sequencers that can do these rhythms? Or will it be a case of building some when the modular system is opened up?
:)

as far as rhythms go in bitwig, you can change the "st" at bottom right of the arranger to 3t, 5t and 7t
just click and drag up

they will let us soon change time sig (mid-song)

but not yet :(
has anyone see Maitake ?

Post

i googled "polyrhythmus" that you say

its very nice device.. i hope someone will make it for bitwig. or something like it
has anyone see Maitake ?

A VST version would be great. Right now I'm using loopMIDI to bring sequences from polyrhythmus into bitwig. It would be cool to be able to do it all in one place, though! Cool sequencers are so much fun!

aha thank you, that looks perfect!
Half the fun with these sequencers is hooking them up to LFOs and modulators, which Bitwig is so good at.
Hopefully when the modular system is opened up, it'll be possible to build some very nice step sequencers.

Numerology (five12) all the way for this kind of thing - http://www.five12.com

I think bigwig focus, as least initially, should be to give us better VST support, so we can leverage the 1000's of specialist products out there, that bigwig can never hope (or want) to cover.

Im sure the modular system will be cool, but there will still be lots of VSTs that are just better/easier to use... partly due to the skills of those implementing.
(also, remember, unless they provide us with a C interface (or like Max, have gen), you are not going to be writing DSP level code with the modular environment!)

RaxNTrax: http://www.raxntrax.com/rnt2/index.htm can run as standalone or as VST, modular/linear/pattern... As simple or complex as you want.

Modulys: http://www.raxntrax.com/modulys/ the step sequencer from RaxNTrax as VST. Very deep, very affordable, very flexible.

Jamstix: http://www.rayzoon.com/ this is an awesome drum plugin that also offers a minipack with a special drummer "Euclid"
http://www.rayzoon.com/euclid.html - Jamstix can output audio and/or midi... And it can vary the rhythms very life-like. Love it. VST.

Plogue Bidule: http://www.plogue.com/products/bidule/ comes with many modules and has several step-sequencers. Comes as Standalone and VST. A real swiss army knife but not the best GUI IMO.

Thesys: http://www.sugar-bytes.com/content/prod ... hp?lang=en quite deep step sequencer... VST/Standalone.

Axon: https://www.audiodamage.com/instruments ... ?pid=AD026 very clever little bugger.. VST

Usine: http://www.sensomusic.org/ Standalone that can be synced to Bitwig Studio. Very deep modular host, nice GUI, great for live work...

and tons more... :-)

I prefer VSTs over M4L since I can use them everywhere... :-)

Cheers,

Tom

@thetechnobear -- thanks for that, I always wanted to try it but running Windows here. I see you on the Madrona Labs site from time to time, can't wait to check out Virta, whenever it arrives!

@Thomas -- thanks a million. I already had Axon, from a few years back, and I never realised it sends MIDI notes out, until I put it on an instrument track today. Thank you for making me remember!! I'll stick with these for the time being!

Yeah, Bitwig is much more flexible in that you can have devices in any order you want wherever you want them - no extra tracks needed for midi plugins. And in case you don't know already: You can disable audio and only send midi from Axon (needs to be done per pad).

BTW. I added Modulys to the list above, may be less overwhelming than RaxNTracks ;-)

Cheers,
