Best video format for Tracktion?

I'm putting together a short animation that I want to create a score for.

What would be the optimum format for Tracktion? I'm rendering out a temp version that's 320x240 but I'm fairly sure uncompressed frames are not a Good Thing (tm).

I occasionally cue to video with Tracktion using mp4 files. I Handbrake them to get the size as small as possible usually 400kbps or lower and 320x240 or similar resolution. Even so, Tracktion bogs down pretty badly. I use the video to set the TC markers then hide the window. Sometimes it's easier to just transpose the TC marker values over from FCPX or iMovie manually.

Urgh, I was afraid T6 might hiccup.. I'll try MP4 and see what happens, the video quality can be crappy as long as I can tell where I am..

I'd rather not have to fork over for Digital Performer.. shudder..

My MP4s were using ProRes which is the high quality setting when exporting from iMovie. That certainly didn't give optimal results when used in Tracktion. It would be good to learn what format does work well. I suspect there might be different answers for OS X and Windows.

I'll have to experiment.. I did re-install SONAR X3 "just in case", I want to stick with T6 for all my other musical work because the workflow kicks ass.

I'm working on a short animation and once I get some playtime with different codecs, I'll post my results. I'm on Windows so that's the only OS I can give info for.

Ok, update: I can load an AVI into Tracktion, it seems to reject MP4 on my system (Win10) so either it's busted r I'm missing something.

AVI loads fine and I can record without issue.

KInd of annoying that I need an external video editor to replace the soundtrack with, but that's a very minor thing and I can grab the Sony Movie Studio 13 for that (it's cheap and cheerful). I'll do my format conversion with that, as well.

Been fighting SONAR all weekend, it's powerful but it does some stupid illogical things with audio clips.. frustrating as hell. I hope I didn't scaremy neighbors with all the screaming and cursing...
