Not sure if this was going on prior to 9.0.8 but in Live 9.2 (OS X 10.10.5) when I open a sub window in a Melda plug (e.g. Presets) then I cannot play notes with the computer keyboard until I close that window.

Live is terrible for creating problems like this, but I don't know if there is a workaround from the Melda side?

I'm afraid you need to ask Ableton about this. Basically if a popup is displayed the host would need to intercept the keyboard events. That's especially problematic on the horrible OSX design, so each host works differently, it's actually hard to keep track what works on each host on OSX...

OK. I feared it was so. Thanks.

If you have the time and can answer this in one sentence - what is the problem with the OS X design?

Post

One sentence will probably be impossible :D. But, on Windows the host creates a main message loop, which handles all events, so anything happens, the host has a very easy way to intercept it and do whatever it needs with it. And even if any subpopup creates its own modal loop, it can still easily hook into it.
On OSX, besides the 2 different GUI systems each plugin has to support (because some time ago Apple said "this sucks, let's discard the whole thing and make it new", but sadly the new thing sucks too and the old one still needs to be supported, because Apple doesn't care about plugins and professional audio - it's the typical myth, OSX is designed for simple end user apps, browsers, facebook and stuff...), the whole even system is somehow controlled by the system and despite you can actually override it, it's unbelievable pain and you risk compatibility problems with every damn OSX update...and you have to do it twice...

Well, that was a little more than 1 sentence, but I had to spit it out :D.

Windows FTW!
BTW, I have not had any problems at all with Melda plugs in Windows 10 so far.
Is it possible to take advantage of window snapping? In windows 10 you can snap 4 windows in the corners and it auto fits them on the screen. Super useful for when using multiple windows, especially in MXXX.

Hmmm, how to do that? :) Anyway I'd normally thought the OS should do that automatically right?

Yes I would have though so too, however it does not. Even in Windows 7 when you drag a screen up to the top it full screens, this doesn't happen with melda windows either? I don't understand why though.

Thanks for the full and frank reply!

It's a funny old world ... I last used Windows 14 years ago, I then had several years on Linux before moving to OS X. I thought it was a progressive move at the time :) Now OS X is being being merged downwards into a mobile phone OS. Sigh.

Happy to give you the opportunity to vent ;)

jmg8: I think it could be because of the windows don't have title & border, so Windows kinda think they cannot adjust them. But I'll check.

lnikj: Hehe yeah :D. No platform is perfect... But the backward compatibility, workflow and speed on Windows is the ultimate plus for me. OSX has the integrated audio drivers, which is great, but horrible workflow, it's slow as hell, and the compatibility issues are a showstopper.
For the record, more than 15 years ago I made a pretty complicated file manager on Windows (I actually won a competition in czech republic with it) and I couldn't update it, because C++ builder I used was not backward compatible. And well I'm still using the program! That's backward compatibility ;). Cannot imagine that on OSX...
