Thanks jmg8!
You know in the beginning I was always furious when a hater came here and started spreading negative energy
, I'd like to say I'm over it, I'm not, but it don't take it very seriously anymore
. If I learned something over the years, then it's that people differ soooo much in their opinions. This also means that even if most people would say something sucks (which hopefully won't happen
), there will be someone who will like it anyway
. Yeah, staying positive!

Are you serious?MeldaProduction wrote: Yeah, well, I'm using M-Audio ProFire 2626 stuff, these guys are really...well... bad... when it comes to drivers, but still better than my Roland OctaCapture, which was just almost unusable... I'm not sure what these companies are doing. My M-Audio is quite old actually, so I'd expect some problems, but first of all, they should update the drivers, right? And OctaCapture is pretty new and the compatibility issues... argh....
Apparently the drivers are superb & optimized for Cubase. I would go for the USB models. Whatcha waitin' for?

Thanks! This is a great tip. It basically does what we need it to do. I just tried it and it worked really well and allowed me to use a large number of waves.MeldaProduction wrote:Actually I'd strongly recommend NOT to use patch morphing, and instead use multiparameters for it! You can map first 32 (?? maybe more ?? don't remember) harmonics to a multiparameter, set it to banks mode and then "teach" it any number of states. ABCD morphing is very nonefficient.
The only 2 things I'd like to ask are 1). Is it possible to add controls for more than the 1st 64 partials. If not I understand and to be honest it's not that big of a deal. 2). Is it possible to get a multiparameter to control all the partials or if that's not possible to select more than one parameter at a time. As it is now I'm clicking learn and then dragging over all the partials and phases. This is a bit annoying. I'd like to shift click the first and last parameters in the list and have them added to the modulator. I think this would be a useful feature for other things too.
Thanks for all the hard work. Discovering this feature is like unlocking a whole new synth.

Yes, me too, I LOVE this.
When importing a new waves shape into normal mode and then clicking the arrow to put it down into the harmonic mode, you will notice the sound gets duller when only using 32 partials. However, almost all of the character is there in the first 32, above that is really just brightness.
So even though we can only modulate the first 32 partials, load in a saw or something with a nice top end and use it in say 256 mode, but only modulate the first 32. The morphs will still sound great and you get to have a bright top end too.

Oh, and in terms of soundcard drivers there are only two companies I know who had windows 10 drivers out on day one release. I know this because i updated to win10 and had to buy a new soundcard. They are Focusrite and RME.
I couldn't quite afford the RME babyface pro, but these guys are the best in the industry. It's two german brothers and one codes for windows and the other mac. But the are lightning fast with driver updates.

Thank you folks!
And thanks for the tips about soundcards, will definitely check them out! For some reason not many people are using these over here, so... But seems like a way to go
.
chandler: I'm afraid increasing the number of modulated partials isn't an option, first because the already huge number of parameters and second for sake of backward compatibility. As for the learning, you can just do that ones and save it as a preset for the multiparameter

just wanted to comment on the "crossfade" thing - as I understand it, crossfade really just slowly decreases the volume of the signal from one generator, while simultaneously increasing the volume on the other generator (like a "poor man's morph".)
I think this is different than the "mix" control, which shouldn't affect the volume but rather just the amount of summing of the harmonics from each generator - am I right?

That's disappointing to hear. When I installed Windows 10 and connected my Roland QUAD-Capture Windows automatically installed the latest driver it's worked perfectly. Maybe because the Octa has many more features? You'd think Roland would spend more time on the drivers for the Octa since it's a more expensive product...MeldaProduction wrote:but still better than my Roland OctaCapture, which was just almost unusable...
And yeah, +1 to the Steinburg UR interfaces. I'd probably get the UR242 if i I didn't have my Quad.
Feel free to call me Brian.

syntzh: That's correct. Crossfading is indeed a wrong term for this. I'd rather call it dry/wet (despite it's not a well defined term either
, but at least everyone knows what it means)
bmrzycki: I actually tried a few months ago, when Windows 10 was still beta, so who knows. I even found some problems I had there weren't caused by Win 10, so I'm going to test Win 10 soon, but first lots of backups and stuff

Well, here's hoping that Melda will support Windows 7 for awhile.
Oh sure, Vojtech has probably analyzed the waves of various synths with sophisticated techniques, but I'm coming at it as a musician, and z3ta makes me feel like playing...(Hive does too). The GUI is beautiful, and it sounds so rock n' roll. And very programmable!
See, Vojtech can have all of the super clean, anti-aliasing oscillators he want's, but there is more going on here...
It is esoteric! It is spiritual! It is ineffable!

And I wanted to say it.
Unacceptable! Z3ta 2 is basically fantastic and I won't have any of that kind of talk!MeldaProduction wrote: z3ta and helix have horrible oscillators compared to MPS

And I completely get it!
Audio is often too "scientifized"
(that's probably a new word I just invented, it may not seem to make any sense to anyone else but me
). So, if you like it, you use it! Period
.
As for Windows 7 support - I don't follow - of course we will support it... did you hear something I don't know about?
After all it all works on Win XP too (and that's a very very old guy
), though I rather take it unofficial since MS doesn't provide official support anyway.

I got the RME Babyface last year (shortly before they released the pro .. AARG!!jmg8 wrote:I couldn't quite afford the RME babyface pro, but these guys are the best in the industry. It's two german brothers and one codes for windows and the other mac. But the are lightning fast with driver updates.
So, Vojtech: get your hands on the RME Babyface, if you want a really really damn good interface and if you would spend such prices, hehe. Unfortunately I am not sure if they still sell it. ... the pro is around 750 € ... my Babyface was around 550€. Damn such prices, hehe. But to me it was an investment for the future, since I do it for a living.
System: Win 10 64 bit / i9 9900K (8x 3.6 GHz) / 16 GB DDR4-3200 RAM / 1TB M.2 SSD + 2x 500 GB SSD / RME Babyface / Reaper
