Tracktion Software

Hi,

I am a long time Tracktion user and am setting up a new recording system with 2 Mark Of The Unicorn 24 channel audio input interfaces 24ai. I can see both from the MOTU application, but Traction 4 only sees the first one in ASIO mode. In other modes, (Windows or DirectSound) only 2 channels are available but both devices can be seen. They are plugged into USB and not Ethernet. Is this a limitation of Traction 4 or is there some other issue or setting that lets me use all the channels. Will upgrade if that fixes the problem.

Does the ASIO control panel show the 2 different rack units?

The other thing you might have to do is to identify them differently - i.e. USB Audio A and B - but first, does the ASIO show both units present and activated ? Also, is the ASIO the one that came with the units, and is the driver up to date?

Great questions about the 2 MOTUs. The driver I installed came with the MOTUs as a CD. In Tracktion 4 it does not show the two devices as seperate ASIO devices/items in the list. I am not familiar with the ASIO application but should be. The machine is at an office so I can't just look at it now. I have renamed each MOTU 24ai using the MOTU application/web interface but there might be a further way to indicate they are different devices. They both show up as separate devices in the MOTU web application and under Windows audio and DIrectX audio, but those only allow 2 channels. I'll explore loading a newer driver and look around for an ASIO application/control panel. Any other advice greatly appreciated. Would running Tracktion 6 fix this or is this a lower level driver problem?

See http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/feb06/a ... sician.htm. Looks like Asio4all v2 may work, but default ASIO really only likes to enable one at a time. Now, MOTU support may have some suggestions (based on this article); and possibly an alternative chaining method on some MOTU units (i.e. it could look like a single 48-port unit ? ).

Do let us know - I'm sure others would be interested in knowing how this works.

as motu is writing their own usb asio-drivers, it can very well be that you have all 48 channels available in one asiodriver. have you checked that?
