I love how computing devices that normal human beings can use to get things done are mocked as being "toys" ... mostly by a category of people that historically use computers for the sake of using computers, rather than for getting things done outside the context of computer geekery/development.

Being a tech person has taught me how horrible technology is to people... and how horrible tech people are to everyone else. I'll probably never work in that industry again because of how much it disgusts me.

I am not sure what you're ultimate point is, though I do understand the rant. I used to work at Oracle.

Ultimate point is that people bashing other people for being Mac users and iPhone/iPad users are kinda jerky.

Same for when the same people extend that judgment to the creators of such product, as if those creators are ruining the world by making tools easier to operate. The point is to make a tool accessible, not elite.

As are those that bash PC users.
How is it the Linux crowd seems to steer clear? :hihi:

I must confess that in my younger days I did walk around in one of those fake O'Reilly book cover t-shirts - 'Distributing Clue to Users'.

Nowadays I agree that making things easier to use should be the goal, though Apple has sometimes taken it too far, with the Final Cut Pro and Aperture debacles.

I found one, which suggests there are probably more, but I haven't looked in detail.

It would be very hard to believe that they have not repurposed their libraries where they can do, and instead have gone away and found a large cohort of sound designers to create a couple of thousand patches from scratch.

Absolutely - some of those soundpacks are just gold - I hope in time they will add others. My guess is they have updated all the 3,000 patches to work with the Logic browser and with more descriptive names for remix pads (which I love - I have already given descriptive names to the remix pads in several of my own patches - much better than numbers), but that it would probably take a lot longer for them to do that for all the libraries so I think when they do we will see more addon packs - whether they will be free or paid addons is another question.

I agree about Aperture, which somwhow never fulfilled its promise as a serious contender.

I definitely disagree about FCP being a debacle. On the contrary, I find FCP X to be an amazingly smart and professional piece of software, which allows me to edit much faster and more intuitively (once I bothered to learn the metaphor) than FCP 7 or Premiere Pro. And yes, I'm a professional, trained film and video editor.

The next world war will be because of different OS not because of religion or borders.
Funny that humans fight for their "toys" like someone hurt their childs.
Sometimes i love humans but sometimes they are just :dog:
(me included of course :D )

Just a note - if you want to move the 14GB of Alchemy samples onto an external drive use a symbolic link not an alias. I tried with an alias first and Logic acted like the samples were not there and started downloading them again automatically when I started it up (and then replaced the alias with a folder), however a symbolic link works fine.

Yeah, it will be interesting to see what they do with them. Way back when, the Apple Loops packs used to be for sale individually...but as we know, now they are all included in Logic.

In looking through the presets, some seem to have retained the original name, others are missing, and others are not recognizable when comparing list by list, so either they moved or renamed them - I don't know. What's weird for me is that some make me feel I'm playing a Logic synth as those don't make me feel I'm in Alchemy. Just a feeling, but I do have to explore more, so this might just be initial reaction.

When I first saw Logic get Alchemy so quickly, my first reaction was "oh crap!" that I didn't sell all my Camel stuff, but now I'm glad I held on to it just to have it.
