afaik you can't use midi learn if you rewire to tracktion. you can use the preset midi cc assignments to automate reason though. look at the midi implementation pdf in your Reason folder to figure out which cc you need to use.

You can't "record" Reason knob movements into Tracktion (or any other host), because Reason doesn't transmit those.

What you can do is record the automation direct to Tracktion using an external midi controller. You can't assign your own controllers, you need to use the fixed ones as listed in the "Reason Midi Implementation" PDF that gets installed with Reason.

If you want to draw the automation by hand, you'll need to use the fantastic "cc_rider" plugin by ModuLR - you can get it from http://subminimal.org/tools.php - drop it onto a track and you can then draw automation for any CC. Again, refer to the RMI PDF to know what controller is what.

thanks guys
but I thought the rewire protocol supported this ?
when I used cubase(many moons ago) and reason rewired,I could
record cc's from reason on to a cubase track, and then edit them
useing cubase,??
NOw I cant do this with tracktion ?
ok,so I look up the reason doc and after finding the cc's I want to control, where
do I take it from there,do stay in reason? :?:

No, this was never possible with rewire, regardless of what host you were using. Whatever it is you remember doing with Cubase, it was not recording knob movements out of Reason, I can assure you.

Get the cc_rider plugin, drop it onto a Tracktion track that's pointing at the Reason device you want to control, and then draw automation for the CC you require by selecting it from the "A" button.

you only need the cc rider plugin if you want to draw vst automation. You can draw in midi cc curves to the piano roll just as easily.

guys seriously :?:
cubase did record the cc's,and looking back, this was done on the mac with the aid of a little driver called the IAC,standing for, inter, app, connect .Cubase has a silent midi port, like a loop back, this, and a few other perameters had also to be set up,and heyy.there is was ..really

anyways thanks alot for your replys guys, will follow up your advice

If you were turning the reason knobs with a mouse, there is no way that Cubase was recording anything, because Reason does not transmit midi, silently or otherwise. If you were using an external midi controller, on the other hand, then Cubase could certainly capture information from that on its way to Reason.

Anyway, if you're on Mac then there's another way you can go about this without using cc_rider. Record a clip onto the track in question - doesn't matter what's in it. Then double-click the clip to go into the large editing mode so that the editing toolbar appears at the left. Select the controller icon (the knob), then select "controller" from the menu, then select the appropriate controller number from the popup menu. You can now draw the automation in using the pen tool.
