I think that is could be handy to be able to collapse un-enabled panels. After all, if the panel is not enabled, then it is not doing anything, so the controls need not be displayed. And "a simpler GUI is an easier GUI".

Here is an example from MXXX (but it could apply to all FX):

If there is not room for the Collapse / Expand button, perhaps the functionality for the [Enable] button could be:
(a) When panel is enabled:
-- click = disable panel
-- right-click = disable panel and collapse panel
(b) when the panel is disabled:
-- click = enable panel and expand it, if needed.

Taking it further: in MXXX, perhaps the GUIs for all the modules in a particular chain can be displayed as a scrollable rack? Here is a mock-up using the Distortion, Phaser and Rotary modules in a sequence in the matrix. That would make it easier and quicker to get to all the modules in a chain? (and the chain could, of course, go across columns)

(PS: what is the correct term for those 4 columns in the MXXX 4 * 16 matrix?)

Vojtech is calling them "lanes".

I like your idea in MXXX, but what would happen when?:

We open out one of the windows, would it still be all together and scrollable or just the selected FX?
When we click on an FX in the module, will it auto scroll to the selected FX?

(a) pop-out to separate window - yep, the whole chain is what I was thinking
(b) autoscroll to selected FX? - why not

Not too sure about keeping it as scroll when popped out. As I use multiple monitors and like to be able to full screen one FX and have it on a dedicated monitor, while I work with the other FX on a different monitor.
However I do like the idea of having it scroll when in normal view.
Or it could pop out as a scroll, but then have buttons at the top of each FX (within the scroll) to pop them out again (on their own). If that makes sense?

Well, no problem with having panels collapsable, though I think you are actually making the GUI harder to use by adding controls. If you want that, please write a list of them and I'll check. Personally I don't like it, so others would show interest.

As for showing all plugins in MXXX, that's an absolute "no", sorry. That would be extremely bad for workflow imho, take lots of other resources, cause numerous technical problems, sorry, just no.
