Here you go....Tjgoa wrote:This sounds pretty neat. Is there a video showing this in detail I could try out?jmg8 wrote:Also the AUTO section is not just for matching. I use it sometimes for ducking.
For example, I put the plugin on the kick channel, match the eq curve. Then move it to my bass channel and use the sidechain from the kick to duck the bass. This is pretty transparent as we only duck the frequencies that the kick occupy (leaving more of the bass intact)

I enjoyed the video bro! You are a good presenter with a clear voice and it was very informative and concise. I hope you find time to make some more! Cheers

Thanks, there will be a lot more videos to come. Watch this space!
Thanks for showing me how to embed video, doh.
I also realised afterwards that I keep referring to MXXX as MMX! ha ha, oops.

Sweet! Got it going perfect in Orion. I didn't need to copy another instance on the kick though. I simply had one instance on the bass and side-chained it to the kick channel, then analyzed, seperated, and sidechained it via the dynamics from the plug-in. Works flawlessly and will probably be used in everytrack from now on. Would the same method work for the other melda eq's or is it limited to the auto-series? Cheers

Yeah, I actually didn't copy another instance (although I said copy on the video) I just analysed on the kick then moved to the bass.
It has to be the auto series yes.. Or if you have MDynamicEQ you could manually try to draw the shape using the bands. Activate the analyser and click the pause button. Then use the nodes to copy the shape.
But auto works much better.

Haha, I was just about to post that I just tried the same thing -- I simply moved the instance after anaylzing the source onto another channel and chose do not sound like option. Interestingly, doing these two methods produced two distinctive results. Maybe it was because the spectrum it captured was different slightly, but not to produce such a wide variance. Will have to explore this a little more to make sure I'm actually doing this correctlyjmg8 wrote:Yeah, I actually didn't copy another instance (although I said copy on the video) I just analysed on the kick then moved to the bass.

One more thing, is there a way to control the sensitivity of the 'sound like' and 'do not sound like' options? I wouldn't mind there being a little more cross-over frequency sharing, or less. I could manually increase or decrease the gain in each band, but that would get a little tedious.

It's important that the kick is used as source and bass is used for target. Otherwise it kind of defeats the purpose of removing one from the other.
Also I believe you would have to manually change it yes. Although I would use the dry/wet to lessen the effect.

Okay, I assume that if the instance is on the bass, then the kick would be the source and the bass is the target, right? Wouldn't it also work if you simply analyze the target (ie bass) then moved it the kick (source) then chose the do not sound like, if you wanted to duck the bass instead? I mean, it's still the same thing and accomplishing removing the frequencies from another channel. This example might not make too much sense, but if it was like a huge snare and clap as examples, it'd have the same effect no?jmg8 wrote:It's important that the kick is used as source and bass is used for target. Ah, yes I forgot about the dry/wet you mentioned in the video. Thanks for the reminder

...try it...base > kik...you never know...but usually the "impulse/short/source" would be used be used to "punch through" the "tone/long/target"...
