I have resisted with all my power installing the Live beta.. but I finally gave in to temptation and strayed back into abletonville to see what has changed.

My goodness. They have accomplished something very special! Jules, you gotta snag the beta and give it a go. They have some funky ideas in there that are just great (like a collapsible paino roll so only the notes you are using are displayed, etc). I don't like the navigation nearly as much as T because it's just not as fluid.. and doesn't make use of the right mouse button, mouse+key combos, nor the scroll wheel effectively.. but regardless the program is bad ass in so many other ways. I would love to see lots of this stuff in T.

Looks like I'm gonna have fork up for the upgrade and become a 3 host biatch... T/eXT/Live....

I agree. I would love to see lots of these inuvotive features of Live 4 in Tracktion v2. I still like Mod perfer Tracktions workflow but there are really some nice good logical thigs going on with Live 4.

I just downloaded the Live4 demo and been playing with it for an hour or so. I gotta say I'm not finding it as intuitive as people say it is :? . But hey, if Mod thinks its good, it must be pretty good :D . So I'll keep messin with it. I think the overall look of it has a lot in common with Tracktion already.

Haven't checked Live4 yet, and it's too damn pricey for me anyway. But I would like to see Tracktion better modified for live use. I know it isn't Jules original intent, but i think T would make a killer live app in some aspects - without much work.

For example, I can make a couple of tracks, each with a couple of FX on it. Than I can easily route other tracks into them, switch them around, switch the order of FX on each chain and bypass them. Easily, realtime. If Tracktion allowed me to somehow record all these movements (a sort of automation), I am in FX heaven.

I could not agree more although he can now get the Live 4 demo instead!

I have been Live 3 user for some time now and it is absolutely brilliant.

If you want a simple page to give you the best overview of features and links to other Live4 related issues have a look at thishttp://www.ableton.com/index.php?main=live&sub=start

Great idea starting this thread ModuLR I may have another look at the other Live 4 thread I started  :hihi:

I like the intuitive way you assign an audio or midi input in Tracktion though with the big arrows. I couldn't work out how to play and record audio in's (from my Korg) in that live beta.

That is definitely one of Tracktions strengths, I had a look at the process of doing the same thing in Podium and I found it far too long compared to Tracktion.Podium looks promising though.

The realtime midi functionality of Live In Tracktion 2 would be a very good feature addition, without necessarily making it a full blown live performance application.

I would guess Jules is not really interesting in aiming Tracktion at the live market.I don't think too many Tracktion users like me are that concerned about Live usage of Tracktion(correct me if I am wrong) anyway. 8)

when it comes down to it, Live will not replace Ttracktion for me. I really do enjoy T's workflow much more than any host out there. When I look at live, there are just aspects of it, which could easily be incorporated into something like T2. The collapsible piano is a perfect example. Imagine just throwing some notes in the piano roll, then collapsing it. It will transform from piano roll to instant step sequencer almost... since only the notes you are using will be displayed. That would be awesome for drum programmming. Something about that idea I'm just fiending over... and of course, the whole paintbursh style of laying out clips would be nice (but that's been requested several times). I really wouldn't want the focus to shift into attempting to make T2 and Live composition tool tho... becuase that's just not what it is. However, it would be cool if T2 could handle live resampling of it's outputs to create entirely new audio clips like Live.

It's not just Live tho... I wish I could take chunks of eXT and stuff them into T2 also... ahem, track folders!

I agree. I dont even know how to jump around the edit. And when I change the snap and I resize a audio clip it still snaps to 1 bar. I guess I'm just spoiled by Tracktion since it took me 15 minutes to start making music on it :D. Cant wait to see what Jules has in store for T2. He's been on hiatus for a long time now. :-o

ya know, I have been ultra patient with regards to T2. Whenever the topics come up, I don't even post in 'em... cos I'm pretty much getting along fine with T1.

but.. with all this new stuff/updates coming out left and right for other software, I've gotta admit I've starting to feel a bit "crackhead'ish" ... I need my T2 fix damnit! :D

Haha foreal. I dont know why I had my hopes up for Summer Namm :x . Its all good tho. I know it'll be amazing. I think what makes things worse is that Jules hardly stops in anymore. It makes it seem like things arent moving at all.

I saw Live4 demonstrated at the NAMM show. It was very powerful. It almost makes me want to get rid of my Cubase and Sonar. No more worries about ZERO CROSSING POINTS, and it automatically will loop bars and change pitch without changing tempo ! It was even able to SWING REAL STRUMMED GUITAR that had been recorded straight !

Yep, very interesting indeed !

Interesting feedback from NAMM I guess Jules was not there with a 20ft screen showing the latest new FX and instruments in Tracktion 2 then? :hihi:

Live 4 is brilliant but apparently you cannot use 3rd party FX or instruments in rewire mode.

DC Talk...eh? Did you really write for them? Are they still with Virgin Records?
