Hey, I was wandering within Bazille presets and could not resist posting a big Congratz to Howard Scarr for his awesome patches.

This is the perfect illustration of what I see as the "less is more" mind of that guy : ten cables and nothing more is what it takes to create this perfect xylophonoïd sound (seriously, if you've got Bazille, test this preset).

Anyway, hail to HS ! :hail:

I always wondered why so many "professional" presets have to utilize all filters, envelopes, 3 pages of mod matrix, and 4 synth layers... saw that on many synths, and i just thought "WTF..." especially when you listen to your favorite electronic music then, and realize how simply most of the sounds are. So, yes, less is more is definitely a good approach IMO. :)

Disassembling Howard's patches is almost always insightful and usually humbling. His ability to do more with less is all over Zebra as well and reminds me to spend even more time learning the ins and outs of each module.
Feel free to call me Brian.

Definitely agree. It just shows that he's ultimately all about the sound, and not about showing off what the synth can do or trying to "out-cable" the next guy ;)

I know this is U-He's forum but

I recently acquired a used Waldorf
Blofeld and played through all the patches. Took me a while!

I was amazed that so many of the patches I found especially nice ended with HS.

HS, whoever you are, I salute you.

I've owned a Virus for ages and Howard's patches on that machine are stellar as well. His guide to programming analogue synthesizers is well worth a read.

Post

Agreed.

Sometimes I look at his patches in Zebra that have just a single oscillator/FMO and then filter and it takes quite some time to reverse engineer the macro genius involved in the patch :borg:

I always check HS patches first, and last. So much to learn :D

Huge fan of yours!

I know Howard has done sound design for non-u-he products also. Recently I came across a patch from a certain French company, with a product name that starts with a "P". The patch has HS in front of the patch name. I wonder if Howard came up with that sound also; it sounded like a disco Simmons drum sound; I used it in a recent song.

What's wrong with full names, if it's not hidden ad or smm or anything like this?

Re preset in a French "P" product - must have been someone else.
