Nice one, I can see why. Bit of followup, and absolutely one from me too! Cheers!Frantz wrote:This Tuneyards performance got a "hurrah" out of me
An idiot on Set Theory:
"In some cases there is an object called red that contains everything that is red. In much the same way a pot is a plate."

i had never heard of these guys until i saw a clip of this video on off the air one night.
its freaking hysterical. they come off as being a bit ridiculous...but on purpose, i got a definite feeling that theres more than meets the eye with them and so i did a little youtubing and sure enough...there is.

Hearing this band for the first time was refreshing, and outside of my normal listening scope, but has become a true inspiration none the less. Which is rare.

Great live performances too from the Tuneyards and Orianthi.
But those Krazy Germans Knorkator are maybe a little too much hurrah?

Went to see a friend on tour last week, also on the bill was Arc Iris -- an intriguing amalgam of folk/glam/prog/chamber music. Were they any more twee I'd vomit but their humor and earnestness made them quite endearing. Lovely ladies in glittering garb never hurt, either.

For me it's definitely Solstafir. I heard them a few months ago when I was searching for some new music on YouTube. Since then, I've bought three of their albums Otta, Svartir Sandar and Kold. They're all great and I'll be grabbing more. Otta is easily one of the best albums I've ever heard. These guys are special.

Honestly? I've been listening to a live CD by "Santiano" all week long, which I bought last weekend out of curiosity. It's a German band doing the sailor/shanty pop/Irish folk thing. It's so full of cliché that it's almost unbearable. But it's so much fun to listen to. I'm streaming it throughout the office back and forth and everybody is in a good mood. In the end I think that's what music is about, right? Affecting our emotions, that is. No matter if it's sophisticated or dead simple.

I saw them open for St. Vincent a couple years ago, I thought Tuneyards was way more soulful and dynamic. They make crazy polyrhythmic structures come to life with the simplest of tools. It helped that it was a hometown show (the Fox Theater in Oakland, CA) with an adoring audience. I got a T-shirt at the concert and wore it home; when I walked in the door my wife thought it said "Cuntyards" due to the funny font.whyterabbyt wrote:Nice one, I can see why. Yep, St. Vincent looks like a model doing a David Byrne / Laurie Anderson-derived pose and is becoming a big headlining act, playing stadiums in Japan apparently. I think her music is OK but not super interesting.Winstontaneous wrote: I saw them open for St. Vincent a couple years ago, I thought Tuneyards was way more soulful and dynamic. Meanwhile Tuneyards, who looks kind of homely, is doing unique polyrhythmic pop and is mostly flying under the radar. It shows that looks are more important than talent in pop music.
