There is an old post floating around here by christianmusicmaker regarding some free synths. I checked them out and one of them, the MP 5.2, gave me instant plug-in Inspirado. The song was written, mixed, and mastered in 4 hours.

I've already posted this in the positivity thread, but for the sake of posterity, here's a quickly-assembled blues in C-major's relative minor key. <wink and grin>
Rockin' Blues
5 tracks total:
-Drums from a collection of live-played drum loops on CM 71, by Beta Monkey Music. I wanted it more 'in your face', so I through Digital Fishphones' Blockfish and then Endorphin. A bit of overkill using 2 compressors, and it was a bit of an accident-- but rather than tweak Endorphin to get the same sound, I just kept both on.
-Bass, recorded live with a Fender Jazz, direct through the mixer into the soundcard. Used an Abyss plugins Imager, though I'm not convinced it helps it punch through. It sounds better soloed, but not necessarily better in the mix. Shaved off some frequencies using T's EQ, and then used Endorphin again.
-Acoustic 'rhythm'/chords. Used a Sure PG-58 through a mixer into the card. SIR for reverb, and a bit of Digital Fishphones' Dominion for some saturation and frequency manipulation.
-Electric 'rhythm'/comping. Instead of using one of my electrics, I actually used the acoustic again, but with a Dean Markley soundhole pickup, which is basically a low-output single-coil. Little Green Amp II with a lightly driven American sound.
-Electric solo. Used a Godin LG, which is equipped with P-90s. The hum was dealt with by standing in exactly the right spot in my room and by using a bit of a gate. Signal chain:
Green Wah on Auto->Little Green Amp II on a tweaked "Paula's Favourite"->Green Gate->MDA Delay->Endorphin
In the Master area, I used Kjaerhus' Classic Limiter on "CD Mastering" setting (just for safety) and rendered.
Most of the FX and their settings were kinda selected hodgepodge. I didn't spend too much time tweaking, and I didn't focus too much on proper panning, though there's some in there. The only 'involved' work was turning off the delay in the solo from time to time, using T's automation. I wanted to cut the auto-wah sometimes, too, but I couldn't figure out how to do it quickly enough, so I just gave up.
The instruments were all recorded in one take, except for the drums (loops). The bass was only recorded about 1:10 or so, and then I just repeated the entire pattern again, cutting and pasting one extra note right at the end. [/url]

Made completely in Tracktion, I present to you a song of crude lyrics and questionable taste, done in the style of 80's rock. The drum beat is a blatant rip-off of Quiet Riot's "Cum On Feel The Noize", based on a modified MIDI file used for that very song. The original MIDI programmer's name isn't mentioned in the file I found, or I'd credit them for their work.

This is pretty much all impOscar and Waldorf Attack soundwise and mainly the kjaerhus classics for effects and SIR with the Spectral Relativity impulses for the weird bits - along with some built-in effects like eq obviously!
Dozy Beast
As above, with the addition the Oddity and SFZ (for the acoustic drums - the NSKit) and lots more of the aforementioned Spectral Relativity stuff fading in and out.
I loves my Tracktion I does!

Stone me I'm a slow worker, it's four months since I last completed a track! New track called Cheap Shot at www.richardhanson.me.uk/get_mp3.php?tr=Cheap_Shot . I suppose it's my usual boring electro-rock!

Including the time it took me to figure out the KX drivers for my SBLive card, this song has about 15 hours in it.
Equipment:
MIM Fender Fat Stratocaster
Behringer V-Amp (for the amp simulations)
CAD M-177 Large Diaphragm Condenser Mic into
dbx mini pre
Tracktion of course, using plugins:
sfz for bass and EP tracks
ndc tremelo on the EP match to 1/2 note tempo - very nice feature
Crystal for the sparkly sound in the bridge
Final Mix on vocal track and in the final mix filter location
built-in reverb and compressor from Tracktion on guitar tracks
luxonix effects for reverb on the vocal track
SB Live card with KX drivers
AMD Athon 1.2 GHz, Win98SE, 256 MB RAM.
I'm going to re-do the vocals (I had a throat infection when I recorded them last night).
Also, I know there are some farts in the rhythm guitar, but I wasn't planning on keeping that track so I never kept track of what my V-amp settings were - trying to punch in now would be a disaster. I like 95% of the rhythm guitar track and I don't want to throw it away for the 5% that's no good.
I thought the fact that there was no proper mixer in tracktion would cause me trouble - It's great not having one to get in the way all of the time.
