Looking at the prices on that wayback page, RMV is no doubt the biggest bargain of the lot, price has been reduced by more than 85%

Have a look in the manual: http://web.archive.org/web/201311020209 ... %20503.pdfboombaxx wrote:How do you control RMV with a midi controller does not seem to be anyway to do it or am i missing something obvious

RMV uses multiple MIDI channels for input so that it can control pads and loops separately - check the setup tab. If you're using Live, you'll need to set up multiple MIDI channels that feed into the instrument channel or, at the very least, map the pads channel to MIDI Channel 1.boombaxx wrote:How do you control RMV with a midi controller does not seem to be anyway to do it or am i missing something obvious
For continuous controllers, those are mapped using the mod matrix.

Sad. I talk about Octopus a lot. I thought it was one of the best FM software synths. I wonder what happened to it's developer? Maybe he was abducted and brought back to mother Russia ala Theremin?

Hi
I really liked and used RM4 a lot - i found that RMV just got too complex, convoluted and was trying too hard to cover too many bases.
Perhaps they will redevelop (from scratch) some of these products.
I use Alpha all the time - the sub bass from this is awesome - IT IS my bass machine.
I like their copy protection (serial), so I will always consider any new products they put out.

Ok, so here is some feedback from me. Got Alpha 3 and RMV in this sale. Using Windows 7, FL Studio 12 64 bit. I downloaded the files (links to the files and serial numbers were provided in an email immediately after purchase) then I installed and started playing around with both plugins, no problem. I used Paypal to buy them via the links on Linplug's Facebook post advertising this sale. The plugins work as expected. I notice that the person that posted a screenshot of an issue was using FL Studio. I did not encounter that problem with the FL Studio wrapper on my PC.
Alpha CM has always been one of my favorite CM synths. I have used it on projects. I recently updated the CM version when the 64 bit version of the CM version got released (which was a nice surprise). This synth is great for more “traditional/Retro synth sounds” and Bass, in my opinion. This is not the synth I would go to for today’s “Dance Music sound” (supersaw, etc.. meh). However, it serves its purpose especially if you are into “Retro” 70’s/80’s/90’s synth sounds (Pop music, Old school Hip Hop, Electronica, Lounge..) . It’s easy to use, sounds great (given its limitations), doesn’t have many bells and whistles (aside from a Mod Matrix), which translates to very low CPU consumption. The GUI is very functional. A perfect synth to learn programming sounds. There are no included effects aside from a chorus (No reverb, no delay, etc..). The presets are therefore RAW, the way I like them and you have to get creative (eg: No separate envelopes to use as sources in the mod matrix, but you can use the Amp and Filter envelopes as a source to affect other parameters). You can’t hide so-so presets with Alpha by drenching them in reverb, delay or other effects: A challenge to the sound designers who created lots of great sounding presets with this limitation. I like many of the presets that came with the CM version. The 900 presets that come with the full version made this a no brainer for me at less than $20. And now that I have had a chance to peruse through some of these presets, I am not disappointed. Lots of useful sounds that I can see myself using in my music. Also, again at less than $20, getting the extra features of the full version VS. the CM version makes this totally worthwhile to me (32 voices vs 16, several size options for the GUI, 3 LFO’s instead of 1, Ring modulation, 26 modulation destinations vs. 20, free running oscillators option for both oscillators, precision mode to replicate small inaccuracies similar to analog synths, Rate control of Portamento, adjustable Pitch Range per sound, etc..).
RMV, I hadn’t demoed. I hadn’t really heard much about it in the past. There are a couple of reviews online, a few brief videos (that don’t really showcase the sounds). Based on the list of features and the included content I took a chance at $20. I will admit, I am a Drum Junkie, whether Acoustic, Electronic, or Hybrid drum sounds, the bigger pallet of drum sounds I have at my disposal, the happier I am and the better I sleep at night. I didn’t try to demo RMV. I just bought it outright and crossed my fingers. I have Geist, Punch, Battery, Attack LE and more (as “Beat machines”) and I don't really want to spend time learning RMV inside and out (especially since it will soon officially be discontinued). I figured I would get this more as a “plug and play” drum instrument for the included Drum synth modules, and use the included kits and hit sounds without delving too deep into the more complex/unique functionality this plugin offers. Being able to use the included Midi Grooves in my DAW turned out to be the cherry on top. I used one of the Midi grooves in my DAW, triggering both RMV and Punch at the same time (layered sounds) and it gave me a big smile
Nice!
In terms of the Drum Synth engines, based on my limited play time last night, RMV is capable but it isn’t the “crème de la crème”. It doesn’t offer as many modules and parameters as say, Punch, but sometimes less is more and I ended up making a few great sounding drum hits in little time using RMV. Punch is better in my opinion when it comes to the Drum synth portion, the different modules on offer and the number of parameters/tweakability for each module. What I am really happy about is the RMV included samples (kits and hits). There are a ton of these and they are definitely up my alley (for old school hip hop, Trip hop, etc..). I wouldn't recommend these sounds for Rock or traditional acoustic music (better off going with BFD or Easy Drummer 2 for a realistic acoustic drum sound, with lots of variations of each drum sound, etc..), but if you like using and mixing up acoustic drums and electronic drums to make electronic music, there are lots and lots of useful sounds in there. I feel spoiled that I got so much content for so little money.
I am also proud that I was able to fight my GAS to a certain extent. I decided from the get go that I would not even contemplate getting Octopus. I can’t speak for the sound, it seems folks love it, but I recently got Rob Papen Blue II as an “advanced FM synth” and am focusing on that one. I also have Sytrus, Fm8, and Toxic Biohazard so “enough is enough!”. At $20 it would probably be worth it for the presets alone, but I am drawing the line. The GUI doesn’t really vibe with me either, but if I didn’t have any FM synths I would definitely look into this one and do more research (Again, $20!) + apparently Maxx Claster was the dev and I typically really like his work (Sawer, Morphine, etc..)
I am going to skip the additional presets on offer for Alpha and RMV. I will use what came “in the box” with the plugins and make my own presets. I can’t justify spending half as much or more for an extra library than what I ended up paying for the plugin.
I am going to look into relectro tonight, just for kicks, just to make sure that I am not missing out on it.. That’s another $20 I am not sure whether or not I will spend (again, given the fact that I make trip hop/old school hip hop/loungy stuff), this one might be just up my alley. Hoping it’s not. I really don’t want to open up the wallet again..
Thank you Linplug for this sale
