Crash, crash, crash...

I really like Tracktion and often consider buying it, but who wants to waste money on something that doesn't work?

First, they offered version 4 for free to Linux users. I installed it and... it never ran. Even with a lot of experience in Linux, I can't see anything in the command line output that seems useful at all.

Alright. So I installed version 6. It ran (in demo mode), but it crashed a lot in my tests. I believe I had version 6.1.

Now I just upgraded to 6.2.1 in the hopes of finding a more stable version, but it won't run at all, just like version 4.

This thing is never going to take off in this state.

Where is it supposed to be? I can't find it.

The easiest way is to click the Help button and choose it from there. I don't know what folder it's in for Linux. The name will be something like Tracktion6Log.txt.

It might mention that it's crashed; if so, you can check what it was trying to do and perhaps do something about it (eg: if it's a plug-in, try renaming the plug-in (the extension bit)) and restarting it.

I don't even have pulseaudio, and version 6.1.6 was running without it.

There can be just about anything in these files. Sometimes a user might be able to help, but it's often an idea to email it to Support@Tracktion.com. Don't know how quickly they'll get back. There is a dedicated Linux dev on board these days. At some point (and I'm guessing it'll be any second now), they have to call it a day for T6 development and start thinking about T7, though they will carry on applying fixes to T6.

I've not tried the Linux version as I don't have a 64-bit PC available.

From what I read here at KVR, their support is not what we generally refer to as "responsive"... Besides, I am not a paid user. I'm trying to run a demo.

Nonetheless, that's the way to get support for crashes you experience with their software, if you're interested in trying to get it fixed. Perhaps you're not. There's obviously something in your setup it doesn't get on with.

I think the devs are at some C++ conference in the US, going off the JUCE Facebook page posts. So they might be a bit caught up with that, right now. But they've always been good at getting back to me whenever I've raised stuff
