GR Meters in mdynamics are not resetting automatically

Hi Vojtech,

for me this is a bug and not works as designed. The GR Meter shows always the last and lowest GR value, that's annoying. Mostly annoying when using the gate, cause then you see the -100 value all the time. It should reset the values automatically after a short time, so you can see the real actually gr value.

Thanks and greets

Marek

Damn it! This KVR forum sometimes really hates me. :( ... I posted an answer and "forum is busy" bla bla ...

Okay to my actual post:

Maybe I am not getting what you mean, sorry in this case, but: if you are using gate, it is (at least to me) logical that it shows in the graph that the volume is reduced. So maybe it's not bug, but a feature. ;) ... or I don't understand the issue.

I will send a video as soon as possible

First new explanation try. I don't talk about the graph! I am talking about the gr meter. It the last meter in the row.
So if I compress a signal about -11db. This is shown in the gr meter, but if I reduce it now less, the meter always shows the most compressed gr value. In this example -11db and nothing above.

Interestingly, I was just using a multiband dynamics and had a similar problem. The GR meter (both the bar and the value) has stopped working, it's frozen.

EDIT: and I've just figured it out... if you click the bypass button on one of the bands (may only be the first band) the GR meters freeze, it also seems to disable the processing for the whole plug! If you disable the bypass it works. This is obviously a pretty serious bug. For now, I'll just set that band to be 0% wet instead of using the bypass button.

@Svama:
I still cannot reproduce this bug, but maybe it's related to vectorwarrios bug? Well:

@vectorwarrior:
I can reproduce it here, too. BUT! It only occurs, when I bypass the very left band. Bypassing bands next to the (lowest frequency) band does not freezes the R meter. Moreover it is not really frozen, but shows the highest value and will update if there will be a higher value.

Big question again: bug or feature? :D

I can't upload a video, always gettin.flv and .mp4 not allowed.

New picture. This value doesn't update during play to higher values and always shows the lowest value.

Big sorry: I only have MMultiBandDynamics. I just tested it with MDynamics: everythign fine, except the active preset you chose. With this preset you have something going on which somehow let's the GR meter go down somehow all the time.

I think it's no bug from the plugin rather than a (maybe) strange behaviour of the preset ! :)

I have the same effect with my own presets. The gr meter goes down and after that it never goes up again until I stop the playback or reset it by clicking the value of the gr meter.

I just compared the behaviour of MMultiBandDynamics and MDynamics. The only way I could make the GR meter stays down is to use the gate. Do you have the gate enabled with a very high threshold? In this case I would call it logical, since the gate tries to hold the volume down to a certain threshold. If the "bottom" is set to a low value the GR meter will be totally down, by the way. I assume that this is intended.

No gate, only compressor.
Vojtech stays on vacation?

It depends on what you do - with gate it is well known - if the gate closes the gain reduction gets as low as -300dB for example, so it takes time for it to get up. All I can recommend is to use time-graphs for gates, after all, these are much more useful for that.

But it is not a gate problem only. The same problems with the compressor mode.
Which video containers are allowed for this forum. I think, a video is the only way to show it and everybody will understand.

It's no really good solution, but maybe you good upload it 1. either on YouTube private and post it here or even more bad 2. zip it and upload it. :D

Yep, private youtube video should do the trick ;)
