I added 2 songs to my music website, though the song that probably would interest you the most is "The Confines of Your Heart", which is the song on top. It has some Zebra synths, some non-u-he synths, and some electric guitar. Please tell me how you like the music and how it can be improved, and I will return the favor if you wish. Here is the link:

Hi aaron,

I like the progressive fusion rock (or something like that) dimension of the song, I believe it has great potential.
I won't speak in this message about the composition, I prefer to point out some mixing issues :
  • I find the global mix to lack punch and contrast :
  • Maybe The drums could be improved by being more gated and compressed, it seems the reason why they are low in the mix is because otherwise they would have crushed the other tracks ?
They're paradoxically too present and not loud enough. Gate (keep the attacks, remove the sustains) + Compression + A bit louder = better balance IMHO
  • Also the synth toms can be reduced by a few dbs
  • The voice seems to be "buried", if it's a voluntary choice, the effect is not pronounced enough.
Otherwise, it's too much :) (an EQ / Treble boost + some mid-lows removal ?)
  • Sometimes you seem to suffer from choice concerning the backing / comping tracks :
Example : The synth / guitars in the background are fighting together to co-exist and as a result, they're taking too much space and thus, too much attention from the listener. My choice would be to lower the guitars AND the synth and alternate the presence of one then the other with more automation where it makes sense.
Or something else to fix that :)
  • I also think the synth could be made more "alive", they have the flexibility to be morphed in whatever you want to, anytime you wish. So, sometimes, to illustrate certain lyrics for instance, or during the breaks, the intro/outro, some specific bars regions etc..., you could modulate your sound a bit more. For instance from 2:30 there is a break and your arpeggiated synth keeps going on in the same fashion, except that now the voice has disappeared, it's in front, it wants to say something but it keeps saying the same thing, with the same sonic character and properties, well maybe you could allow it some expressive space there... I'm note sure if I am being clear anymore :)
Actually You apparently do those things during most of the breaks (more automation, more lively tracks), well you need to find the energy to "animate" the whole thing everywhere :)

Anyway, good job and carry on !
